Stylish Jetsetters Beng Dee And Tootsy Angara Share Their Best Travel Experiences
As frequent fliers, Beng Dee and Tootsy Angara landed themselves in the #MetroMostStylish2018 top 10 list, in part thanks to their fabulous OOTDs. Having traveled frequently around the world with their family and friends, these two stylish travelers share some of their favorite destinations, and experiences.
Out of all the places Tootsy Angara has visited, London is her favorite destination, given ?its appeal for the entire family. The mother? of three has found that the English capital has something to offer kids of all ages, as her children grow from tots to teenagers. Given the rich history of the city’s structures—the number of museums, gardens, royal palaces, and landmarks—she has found no shortage of sights for her family to enjoy together.
The Angaras love walking through ?all the parks and royal gardens,? but Kensington Gardens is their particular favorite. The family enjoys strolling around? the grounds and feeding the swans in the pond, and while Tootsy and her children run around the Peter Pan-themed playground dedicated to Princess Diana, her husband Senator Sonny finds a comfortable bench to sit on and read. Another advantage of the Kensington Gardens is its location, which is a mere 15-minute walk from their from their? favorite Chinese ?restaurant,? Mandarin?Kitchen, which? Tootsy claims? serves the most delicious Peking duck.
A little bit outside central London is one of Britain’s beloved attractions, and another Angara family favorite. Dating back to the early 16th century, the Hampton Court Palace served as a home for the Tudor family, and is one of the two remaining palaces owned by King Henry VIII. After several expansions by generations of royals throughout the years, the grand palace offers much for families to explore, including the famous Maze, which Tootsy claims is “really a challenge to get ?out of.” Beyond the number of towers, the manicured gardens, and the spectacular facade, the number of secrets and stories ?of Henry VIII captures the interest of their children.
According to Tootsy, studies have shown that kids who read Harry Potter grow up to be better people—another compelling reason to make the Warner Bros. Studio Tour of “The Making of Harry Potter” a must-visit for their family.
Given all the places she’s been to, Beng Dee is no doubt a certified jetsetter. Whenever she travels, food is always a priority as the other half of Foodee Global Concepts; and each trip will fall under one of three categories—with friends, with family, or just with her husband, Rikki. Some of Beng’s most exciting travels have been with friends, as they usually choose destinations on their bucket list.
Over the years, she has been able to cross off her list several places and experiences: Exploring South America, combat training in Israel, being hosted by King Abdul and Queen Rania in Jordan, seeing the Big 5 on a safari in South Africa, trekking to a tiger’s nest in Bhutan, and dining by the Xi’An Wall in China. Most recently, on a trip around the Nordic Countries, she visited Copenhagen, Oslo, Stockholm, and Helsinki to experience each capital’s table scene. The most notable part of that trip, however, was going to Iceland to chase the Northern Lights. For Beng, the glacier was one of the highlights, and visiting the geothermal hot springs of the Blue Lagoon is a must.
As the matriarch of a big, close-knit family,? Beng opts for destinations that all generations of?her family can enjoy, which in this case is usually ?somewhere in the United States. In celebration? of Beng and Rikki’s most recent anniversary, the couple took their family on vacation to Honolulu and Maui. In Lahaina, Maui, they rented a private villa that hosted the entire family across seven bedrooms, with an infinity pool facing the ocean. Staying at the two-hectare property was a particular highlight for Beng, as they were able to bond and prepare their meals together as a family.
Travels with her husband are usually business trips or quick getaways to a nearby Asian country, where indulging in the local cuisine is a top priority, alongside trying out a new hotel.
Despite being exposed to a number of beautiful locations and gastronomic experiences across the world, Beng will always have a special place in her heart for her favorite dining destinations: Hong Kong and Japan. Even after numerous visits to these destinations, she feels that “old and new discoveries are always satisfying, and meant to go back to.” To create a new experience in a familiar and well-loved destination, Beng books a stay at a different hotel each time. Whether with family or friends, Hong Kong and Japan never fail to excite Beng and her husband, and satisfy their cravings each time.
