Who would've thought "a pleasant conversation" at Julienne’s in San Marino, which Jamie has always "loved for its pastries and warm, granny-style energy," would end up in two weddings marking a lifetime of deep conversations and long chats as husband and wife?

As their love story goes, Matthew sent Jamie a message on Instagram, leading to their meet-cute. "We had followed each other for a few months through mutual friends, though somehow we had never crossed paths in Manila despite being part of the same circles. His message, by some digital stroke of fate, had landed not in the request messages but directly in my inbox," Jamie recalled. "He told me he didn’t have many friends in Los Angeles, a detail that I would later learn wasn’t entirely true, but in his eyes is still factual since most of his college friends moved out of LA after graduation. He had gone to Claremont for university. I smiled at his openness. Despite my quiet and introverted nature, I have always believed that the best friendships begin in unexpected ways."

And, it was truly unexpected because she loosened up when Matthew cracked a joke. They started to become comfortable with each other by the comfort room because of a funny incident. "Little did I know that rushing toward the restaurant’s bathroom door that day would open not just to a squeaky-clean toilet bowl but to a small twist of fate," she shared. "When I looked up, the first thing I noticed was his height, impossibly tall in a way that photos never quite capture. We exchanged a shy hello, still finding our footing, when he smiled and said with unbothered confidence, 'Give it a few minutes before going in there.' I laughed. It wasn’t the line itself but the ease with which he said it, the kind of humor that instantly makes you feel at home. The confidence didn’t highlight the actual reason of him mentioning it, which was him just taking a dump in the restroom."

Three hours later, their conversation brought them closer—their chats meandered "from light debates to bursts of laughter." What Jamie liked about that moment was just how easy things flowed, the chemistry and connection not forced. "There was no pretense, no calculated charm, only an unexpected comfort between two people who might have met anywhere yet somehow were meant to meet here," Jamie fondly described. "It was supposed to be just another casual meet-up, but that day, with its perfect Californian weather, its laughter, and a single offhand remark by the bathroom door quietly became the beginning of something more."

Here are five things we loved about Jamie Herrell and Matthew Manotoc's weddings in Cebu and Ilocos Norte last January:

The bridal gowns

In true beauty queen fashion, Miss Earth 2014 Jamie Herrell looked stunning as a bride. Besides the designs of her gowns, what was truly remarkable was the thoughtfulness of her uncle, designer Alan Del Rosario. He made sure to create gowns that best captured Jamie's personality and style, a fine mix of youthfulness and timeless elegance. The goal for the designs was for Jamie to be comfortable. "I wanted her not to be restricted from wearing them—to be able to walk, run, and dance gracefully and effortlessly," Alan told Metro.Style.

For their Cebu wedding, Jamie wore a three-tiered, drop-waist, and eggshell-colored ball gown, which, for the reception, turned into a mermaid gown when its top layer was removed. The bodice, according to Alan, was pleated meticulously in silk chiffon on top of a duchess satin. The flouncy and ruffled skirt was made from a fabric from Spain, a "uniquely embossed and embroidered lace with rose and carnation pattern." The petticoat, made of light but stiff acetate/acrylic fabric, carried a sweet surprise: "a copy of Matt’s love letter to Jamie was attached to give it a personal touch."

Jamie's Ilocos Norte wedding gown, also by Alan, had a similar textured, elegant vibe. Made of piña fabric from a local weaver, which was strategically placed to create an irregular pleated effect, the strapless gown with a bias-cut flouncy skirt hugged the bride's figure exquisitely. "As an accent, I made this flower in the same piña cloth and placed one on the side front and another one on the center back."

Both creations are romantic and timeless, contemporary yet carrying touches of Filipino culture.

The bridal accessories

Like an exclamation point to a style statement, a bridal bouquet punctuates a wedding gown. For Cebu, Jamie carried a cascading bouquet by event and floral designer Gideon Hermosa, adding a sophisticated touch to her bridalwear. "More than florals, Jamie's bridal bouquet was created with intention, softness, and meaning, reflecting an intimate celebration in Cebu," Gideon shared.

Her bouquet for their Ilocos Norte wedding exuded a more youthful style, accentuated with seashells and starfish, lending color and further texture to her overall look. It was also nice how this theme carried on to their wedding cakes and how they were showcased at the venue.

Jamie's bridal shoes, a pair of silver-leaf, crystal-embellished heeled sandals by Gianvito Rossi, also featured her initials, J.H.M. for Jamie Herrell Manotoc.

The entourage's color palette

Lending additional vibrance to the celebrations were the colors of the entourage and guests' outfits. For the Cebu wedding, the bridal squad matched the ribbon on Jamie's waist, wearing pink and lilac ensembles (Matthew's necktie was actually purple, too!). Others wore varying shades of pink, green, and purple, giving the occasion a welcome visual punch. Green and purple are the couple's favorite colors!

The meaningful venues and how beautifully they came to life for Jamie and Matthew's weddings

The venues for Jamie and Matthew's Cebu and Ilocos Norte weddings were chosen intentionally.

"Since it was a week before Sinulog, we chose to hold our ceremony at the Cebu Cathedral, especially because Sto. Niño is Jamie’s patron saint," Matthew said. "The place also holds deep sentimental meaning for Jamie. When her father was still alive, her family would visit the cathedral early on Wednesday mornings to attend mass together. Those moments remain some of her most cherished memories. We thought long and hard about where to hold our wedding reception in Cebu. We chose Montebello Hotel, a quaint sanctuary in the heart of Cebu City, where Jamie’s parents first locked eyes. It’s a place that is sentimental to the del Rosario-Herrell family, and we got to start our journey in this marriage there."

The Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral was dressed up by Gideon "with intention and restraint." Given the ornate interior, Gideon and his team went for understated styling, and in doing so, the designer shared that it allowed "every eye to be drawn toward the altar, its beauty unfolding fully as the bride walked down. Sometimes, less isn’t less. It’s focus, reverence, and purpose."

The Cebu wedding reception was held at the garden of Montebello Villa Hotel, and in true Gideonized signature, the venue underwent a major transformation for the occasion, and came to life as an Italian garden with trellises as key design elements. An outdoor gathering is charming and breathtaking in many ways, but it isn't always ideal because of the weather. According to Gideon, the brief was clear in that a tent must not be used. However, the Cebu weather can be unpredictable.

"So instead of letting the tent define the space, we made it disappear," Gideon shared. "Blacked-out fabric to erase the usual white silhouette, trusses wrapped in crawling vines and leaves, and an open, breathable layout that allowed the garden to remain the star. To ground the design in its setting, we introduced local fruits and flowers, adding a sense of place and a subtle Cebuano charm, while keeping the spirit and romance of an Italian garden alive. Inside felt like outside. The tent became an extension of the landscape, not a cover, framing the surroundings and embracing the natural beauty of the hotel gardens. Thoughtful design. Intentional choices. A challenge turned into a feature."

For the Ilocos wedding, the couple chose La Virgen Milagrosa in Badoc for the ceremony. Its stunning architecture complemented Jamie and Matthew's wedding well, both in meaning and aesthetic. "There’s something truly captivating about the chapel’s aesthetic," Matthew said. "The chapel is soft, serene, and gently cradled by the nearby water. It offered a sense of calm and understated beauty that felt perfectly in harmony with the moment."

The beachside venue also inspired a unique bridal entrance, where Jamie headed towards the chapel aboard a raft, signifying how she came from another province and was being sent to Ilocos Norte to marry the love of her life. "We felt that everyone thought that it was a different approach as a wedding entrance," he said. Hey, pets are families, so we also loved that their fur babies joined them for a family portrait by the altar.

The reception was held at Sitio Remedios in Currimao. Matthew added, "It's a place we’ve long adored for its nostalgic charm. The heritage village, centered around beautifully restored wooden Ilocano houses, creates an atmosphere that is both timeless and intimate, the kind of setting that makes every detail feel intentional and lovingly crafted."

The thoughtful Filipino touches

From the start of their wedding planning, Jamie and Matthew were sure they wanted to incorporate Filipino elements. "For both of our wedding celebrations, we wanted to highlight our roots in Cebu and Ilocos Norte. We aimed for something simple yet filled with thoughtful details," Jamie said. "In Cebu, we hosted a three-day affair. The first day was dedicated to celebrating Cebuano culture, and we named the event Kilum Kilum, which means sunset. We wanted it to feel both festive and meaningful."

On the first evening of their Ilocos Norte celebrations, the couple welcomed their guests with a gathering at Malacañang of the North. "Inside, we created an exhibit that presented a gentle parallel between our own love story and that of Matt’s grandparents, offering a heartfelt glimpse into the meaning behind our union," Jamie shared. There, the couple's outfits from their Cebu wedding were also displayed alongside posters summing up their journeys and relationship milestones.

Their second wedding was not only a celebration of their love, but also a nod to their Filipino roots. The bride remarked, "Every detail reflected a Filipino aesthetic, with a special emphasis on the traditions and spirit of the Ilocano community."

Among the highlights of their Ilocos Norte wedding was Jamie and Matthew's entrance, where there were performers who paid homage to the fisherfolk of the Philippines.

Looking back on their wedding planning process, which took around six months for Ilocos Norte and a bit shorter for Cebu, the couple is overwhelmed by joy, having been surrounded by their family and friends in gatherings that showcased love and thoughtfulness beyond words can capture.

"We envisioned our wedding day to be as intimate and traditional as possible, and it came together beautifully," Jamie shared, and now, weeks after they tied the knot, that feeling of happiness still lingers, knowing their two weddings sealed their commitment to each other in the most beautiful, meaningful ways.

Jamie Herrell and Matthew Manotoc tied the knot twice earlier this month, and their weddings showcased how culture and traditions can be beautifully and seamlessly incorporated into a personal milestone.

For their wedding ceremony held at Cebu Cathedral, followed by a reception at Montebello Hotel, Jamie wore an off-shoulder gown with a tiered skirt. In an interview with Metro.Style, designer Alan Del Rosario described his creation, saying, "It's a 3-tiered drop-waist ball gown that turns into a mermaid gown by removing the top layer of the dress."

Not only beautiful, but the design is also practical, making the outfit change for the reception easy and seamless. The off-shoulder design transformed into a strapless style in no time! Aside from the silhouette, the gown's shade and textures are also remarkable. The designer detailed, "The eggshell-colored dress bodice is pleated meticulously in silk chiffon on top of a duchess satin. For the skirt flounce and ruffles, I used a fabric from Spain. It is this uniquely embossed, embroidered lace with rose and carnation patterns. The skirt was designed with irregular mixed layers of ruffles and flounces, with ruffled chiffon randomly mixed into it."

The perfect accessory to go with it was the bridal bouquet by Gideon Hermosa, who described the unique style as something "created with intention, softness, and meaning."

To ensure a flawless transition from ceremony to reception, the mermaid dress underneath was appliquéd strategically with the same fabric design as the skirt. It was then wrapped and draped with silk chiffon to give it a modest look, perfect for the church ceremony.

Our favorite thing about this creation was that the petticoat beneath, which is made of this light but stiff acetate/acrylic fabric, had a copy of Matt’s love letter to Jamie. Attaching it to the bridal gown was such a unique, personal touch that just made the masterpiece worth cherishing even more.

For the Ilocos Norte wedding—held at La Virgen Milagrosa in Badoc for the ceremony and Sitio Remedios in Currimao for the reception—Jamie's wedding gown had a similar silhouette and texture, but its elegant details exuded a different vibe. Made from piña fabric from a local weaver, the gown was meticulously crafted while ensuring the material's organic features were retained to show what the designer described as "beautiful imperfections."

"This is the first time I used this fabric," Alan revealed. "It’s so delicate and a bit temperamental. I used duchess satin as the base fabric inside. Strips of bias-cut piña fabric were strategically placed to give it an irregular pleated effect." The masterful approach gave the skirt an exquisite flounce that looked playful yet sophisticated at the same time.

"As an accent, I made this flower in the same piña cloth and placed one on the side front and another one on the center back," Alan said of the design that looked contemporary yet designed to reflect Filipino culture at the same time.

Alan further told Metro.Style that his goal was to create gowns that would best capture this beauty queen's personality, as well as "her youthful yet classy style."

It is important for this designer that his brides can walk, run, and dance gracefully and effortlessly in his creations, and that goal and requirement were achieved for Jamie.

For Pauleen Luna and Vic Sotto, renewing their vows was not just a celebration, but also a heartfelt way to honor each other and the people who have been part of their love story for the past decade.

Since tying the knot on January 30, 2016, Vic and Pauleen have managed to keep their relationship relatively private despite being constantly in the public eye.

Over the years, fans have only gotten glimpses of their marriage through short interviews and carefully shared moments on social media. Yet behind the scenes, their relationship has continued to grow quietly, steadily, and deeply.

From the time when their relationship first made headlines, to their engagement in 2015, and finally their wedding in 2016, their love story has unfolded with patience and intention.

Today, the couple shares two beautiful daughters, Tali and Mochi, who have become the center of their family life.

As they reached their 10th wedding anniversary on January 30, 2026, Vic and Pauleen revealed that they chose to mark the milestone with a vow renewal ceremony, a decision rooted in reflection and respect for their shared journey.

“For our renewal, we wanted something different from our first wedding. Ten years ago, we had a big wedding with 250 guests. This time we’re celebrating it with people closest to our hearts and people who stood by us the past 10 years,” Pauleen shared in an exclusive interview with Metro.Style.

While the renewal of vows may seem like a spontaneous romantic gesture, Pauleen revealed that the idea had actually been planted years ago, and surprisingly, it came from Vic.

She shared that Vic first mentioned renewing their vows when they were already eight years into their marriage, long before the actual planning began. As their tenth anniversary approached, the idea slowly became a reality.

“Fast forward to last year, we attended a wedding and felt so inspired to get married again! So I started to plan it around July, I think,” Pauleen recalled.

The planning officially began six months before the anniversary, in July 2025, giving the couple enough time to create the intimate, meaningful celebration they envisioned.

‘Simple, intimate, and meaningful’

True to their personalities, Vic and Pauleen were intentional about keeping the ceremony simple, elegant, and deeply personal. For the event design, Pauleen collaborated with renowned event designer Gideon Hermosa, marking their first time working together.

“I am so excited, though, to be working with Gideon Hermosa for the first time! I’m excited to see how he’ll execute my vision. Oh, Vic also wanted the same priest (Fr. Jeffrey Quintela, who is also our second daughter’s ninong) to wed us again,” she added.

The couple chose a theme that reflected not just their aesthetic preferences, but their relationship itself: “classic, elegant, and timeless.”

“No fancy anything, no princess gowns, no over-the-top décor. We want this celebration to be about us and about honoring one another and all the other people who love us,” Pauleen said.

From 250 guests at their wedding in 2016, the guest list was intentionally reduced to 78 people, making the renewal ceremony a truly intimate gathering of family and close friends who have witnessed their journey through the years.

Pauleen revealed that her vow renewal gown was intentionally the complete opposite of her first wedding dress.

“My first gown was beautiful and was fully beaded. This time, I wanted something simpler and timeless. I went to Rosa Clará knowing exactly what I want and I’m happy to find my renewal gown there,” she shared.

Vic, meanwhile, also made a last-minute decision to change his look. “He was supposed to wear a blue suit, but later changed it into a plaid maroon suit. He wanted to look different from the first wedding, that’s for sure!” Pauleen said with a laugh.

For the reception, Pauleen changed into another A-line wedding dress with dainty straps, crafted in soft tulle and with a bodice embellished in lace appliqués and beads, also by Rosa Clará.

Defined by respect

Beyond the ceremony, the couple reflected on what they’ve learned in their ten years of marriage, and their realizations were just as simple and sincere as their celebration.

For Pauleen, the foundation of their relationship has always been respect. “It is possible to have a peaceful and happy marriage as long as you choose to respect, love, and truly accept one another. Not all days are pretty, and choosing to love and understand one another isn’t always the first choice, but it is the best choice,” she said.

Vic echoed the same sentiment, emphasizing one key word that has guided their marriage. “Most important thing I’ve learned about marriage is the importance of the word ‘compromise,’” he shared.

When asked what he loves most about Pauleen after a decade together, Vic didn’t hesitate. “Aside from the love and care she provides, I also appreciate the respect she has for me and my children,” he said.

For Pauleen, describing her love for Vic was harder to put into words, but she knows it’s deeply rooted in how he treats her.

“I believe that this marriage is built on respect, and that’s why things are so smooth. He treats me like an equal and does not limit my growth. He chooses me on top of everything and values my feelings before making a decision,” she shared.

As parents to two young daughters, Vic and Pauleen see their marriage not just as a partnership, but as a living example for Tali and Mochi.

Pauleen shared how meaningful it is to see Vic intentionally show their daughters what it means to love and respect a woman.

“I see how he intentionally shows our daughters what it means to be a loving husband, and that matters deeply to me because it’s going to shape the girls’ standards in the future,” she said.

Reflecting on their journey, Pauleen concluded with gratitude and certainty about the love they continue to build.

“I can continue, and the list just goes on. I just feel so blessed that after 10 years of being married to each other, I can confidently say that I have grown more in love with him than ever before,” she concluded.

As Vic and Pauleen renew their vows, their celebration stands as a testament to a marriage built not on grand gestures but on everyday choices, “respect, compromise, and love,” proving that sometimes, the simplest foundations are the strongest ones.

When it comes to weddings, one of the highlights that guests always look forward to seeing is the cake. At Carla Abellana and Dr. Reg Santos’ wedding last December 27 in Cavite, every detail looked classic and elegant—from the bride’s minimalist Rosa Clara gown to the tented outdoor venue that glowed through the night with warm string lights.

But, among the Pinterest-worthy elements from the event, her wedding cakes stood out for their unconventional shape and style.

For the longest time, towering, tiered wedding cakes, where not all layers are edible, have been the gold standard. Today, however, modern couples choosing practicality over aesthetics have been opting for smaller and more minimalist cakes.

Such was the case for Carla and Reg, who veered away from the traditional multi-layered or multi-tiered confections for two trend-setting, table-spanning designs.

The first one is called a slab or sheet cake. Now, this style is not new for other occasions, such as birthdays. But, for weddings, opting for one today offers a modern approach that helps set the tone for the celebration.

With its expansive, flat surface area, the extra-long, rectangular sheet is truly like a canvas, explaining the charm of and the rise in this low-height wedding cake. We are all familiar with the dedication cakes, and the wedding sheet cake can also serve the same purpose, just as it did for Carla and Reg. Unlike tiered cakes that offer limited vertical space, a rectangular slab can stretch across a dessert table, giving couples another space to tell their love story. For Carla and Reg’s sheet cake by Cake Studio, a simple “just married” statement adorned the all-white creation. According to Cake Studio, the cake featured layers of cotton-soft chiffon cake with mixed-berries compote, whipped cream cheese, and fresh berries in between.

This cake may even serve as the centerpiece of even smaller gatherings. Imagine a long table with this super-sized confection as the main decorative element—an idea that’s especially perfect for a garden wedding where the mood is typically less formal.

Carla and Reg’s slab wedding cake trended online due to its unique style; although it may not appeal to everyone, it’s no surprise that many are drawn to its simplicity. More than the design, what the couple appreciated even more about their wedding cake of choice was that it was fully edible—the type where guests can actually partake in the cake.

Although a much smaller version, the design of Carla and Reg's wedding cake actually resembles that of Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco's cake, proof that modern couples are indeed opting for this cake alternative.

Apart from the wedding sheet cake, Carla and Reg had another showstopping, scene-stealing cake: a giant round cheesecake with strawberries filling the top to the brim. The cake was by Fedici, which specializes in cheesecakes. The massive 24-inch masterpiece weighs almost 20kgs in total, topped with fresh, juicy strawberries and finished with the brand's signature, ice cream-like frosting. (Hey, Fedici's giant cheesecake is on sale until tomorrow, January 7—from 40,000 pesos to 20,000!)

Not your ordinary strawberry cheesecake, what was remarkable about this idea was that it was finished off and decorated on the spot, adding a fun twist to the reception. The couple even got to put the strawberries on top themselves, making for a unique memory. This seemingly trivial detail adds value to the whole wedding, where everything feels intentional and well-thought-out.

At the end of the day, whether you opt for a small or big wedding cake, what's most important is that it's aligned not only with the wedding's overall theme but also the couple's personality.

Sharing a same-day edit video by Mayad Studios, capturing the highlights of their big day, the actress captioned, "My first and last. A love story over 20 years in the making. Two lives coming full circle. This is our story. - Dr. and Mrs. Reginald Santos."

In the video, Carla said, "Sometimes, the bad things that happen in our lives put us directly on the path towards the most wonderful things that will ever happen to us. Who would have known it was still going to be us in the end? Just when I stopped looking for anything and anyone, life surprised me in the most unexpected way. It felt familiar. It wasn't messy or uncertain. It was real. It was healthy... I once read that a great love story is when two people let go of one another, only to eventually find their way back to each other. "

The groom, Reginald, a doctor, then said in his vow, as documented in the video: "Hi, my love. You look beautiful as always. It is that same beauty that captivated me since I first laid eyes on you. I can still vividly remember. We were in high school. We were young back then. We fell in love, and then life had interim plans for us... You were as I remember—kind, loving, selfless, God-fearing. We reconnected at the perfect time. We are now the best versions of ourselves."

For her wedding, Carla looked impeccable and immaculate in a simply elegant creation by Rosa Clará. According to Valerie Zayco, Rosa Clará Philippines' Managing Partner, their connection with Carla started many years ago when she first wore one of their cocktail gowns. "Her sister, Erica, was one of our bridal consultants before. She reached out to me to let me know that Carla was looking for a wedding gown, and we started talking about the look Carla was going for," Valerie told Metro.Style.

She continued, "From the beginning, Carla was really going for a more minimalist look. She was interested in a lot of the Mikado gowns in our catalogue. Luckily, the week she came to fit, our 2026 collection had just arrived, so she was able to see the newest gowns in our collection. She instantly fell in love with Monica."

The timelessly beautiful Monica gown from Rosa Clará's latest collection features a classic square neckline and a flared skirt. What's great about saying "yes" to an RTW piece from this brand is that it can be slightly altered to better fit the bride. The gown Carla picked already has a dramatic low back, but Valerie said, "We lowered it even more for a deeper V." The gown also features deep V cuts on the sides for a modern touch.

To maintain the pristine bridal look, Carla kept things simple yet stunning with minimal jewelry.

"As soon as she picked her dress, we looked at the many veils in our collection, which would best complement her look, and she instantly fell in love with the mantilla style, which is actually trending this year," Valerie revealed. "However, instead of the typical scalloped lace you see in mantilla veils, we created one specifically for her, made with delicate, beaded floral appliqués that look like vines creeping along the sides of the tulle, giving the mantilla veil a modern twist."

The result was that it perfectly framed Carla's angelic face and highlighted her bridal glow. "A Mama Mary kind of beauty," as described by her makeup artist, Mariah Santos, and we can't agree more. The versatile neckline went well with her hair down for the ceremony and a sleek ponytail for the reception, as styled by hairstylist Arvin Santos.

Carla was a vision in this exquisite creation, achieving a timeless bridal look she will love to look back on even many years down the line.

In the world of bridalwear, a dress is often measured by its fabric, silhouette, or scale. But for Aika Robredo, her wedding gown was measured by its heart. In a stunning display of understated elegance, designer Jo Rubio crafted a masterpiece honoring the precious memories of the man who helped shape the person Aika is today: her late father, former Naga City Mayor and Secretary of the Department of Interior and Local Government Jesse Robredo.

On December 29, Aika married Jim Guzman at Our Lady of Guadalupe, Montecito Chapel in Calamba, Laguna, wearing a bridal gown that meticulously upcycled the barongs of her father into a timeless Filipiniana.

Aika's mother, Naga City Mayor Leni Robredo, shared a photo of the newlyweds, revealing the beautiful story behind her daughter's wedding gown: "Aika’s wedding gown was lovingly crafted from her Papa’s old barongs, making sure that he was honored and cherished on such an important milestone."

"I didn’t have a specific gown style or design in mind when I started planning. Our wedding coordinator, Ernest Pascual, asked if I still had Papa’s old barongs and suggested incorporating them into my gown—an idea that immediately felt meaningful. It was also Ernest (along with Char Tinio), who suggested Jo Rubio, feeling he would really suit my style and personality," Aika told Metro.Style.

Although Aika did not have a particular style in mind for her wedding gown, one thing she was certain of was that she wanted "something simple and classic." Immediately, Jo worked his magic to create a memorable piece that was both beautiful and meaningful.

This collaboration was a first between the designer and the bride. "I was truly honored to be entrusted with creating her dream wedding dress—one that mirrored not only her vision, but her essence," Jo shared in an exclusive interview with Metro. "In my designs, she recognized herself: her personality, her restraint, and the timeless bridal silhouette she had always imagined."

The concept was born from Aika’s appreciation for Jo's previous work, a modern terno created from upcycled piña fabrics. "From there, the narrative unfolded naturally. Aika wanted understated elegance: clean lines, thoughtful construction, and a gown that felt immensely personal rather than ornamental," Jo revealed.

For Jo, the heartfelt idea of incorporating the old barongs into Aika's bridal gown "was a beautiful convergence of memory, meaning, and sustainability."

Transforming the heirloom pieces was a delicate technical challenge Jo willingly took on. Aika provided two barongs, each featuring entirely different patterns and fabric weights. Jo described the process as "solving a puzzle without knowing the final image." The goal was to maintain a "deliberately simple" aesthetic so that the varied patterns of the piña could harmonize without feeling cluttered.

"Every piece of the barong was treated with the utmost care, meticulously repurposed, thoughtfully placed, and entirely hand-sewn," said Jo. What emerged from his atelier was a "piña tapestry" that served as a quiet yet powerful tribute to the well-loved politician's legacy.

Aika shared that her Papa's other old barongs were also repurposed by Jo to serve as a heartwarming touch to her mother's gown. The said barongs also found a new home in the designs of Bianca Cordero for the gowns of her sisters, Tricia and Jillian, who were her maids of honor.

Jim matched Aika's style mood board, as he wore a barong by Paul Cabral.

Ultimately, Aika's Filipiniana wedding gown stood as a testament to Jo's guiding principle: that a dress should be a reflection of the bride, not any trend. By weaving her father’s memory into the very fabric of her wedding gown, Aika made more than a visual statement. As Jo aptly put it, "It became a love letter to her father, a tender tribute to a man remembered for his service, integrity, and quiet strength. This gown was not just worn. It was felt."

The couple, whose love story began from a casual restaurant meet-up, celebrated their union in Cebu and Ilocos Norte, highlighting their roots through simple yet thoughtful details.

On both occasions, Miss Earth 2014 Jamie Herrell was a radiant, stylish bride in her ensembles, lovingly created by designer Alan Del Rosario.

Since tying the knot on January 30, 2016, Vic and Pauleen have managed to keep their relationship relatively private despite being constantly in the public eye.

From the time when their relationship first made headlines, to their engagement in 2015, and finally their wedding in 2016, their love story has unfolded with patience and intention.

Today, the couple shares two beautiful daughters, Tali and Mochi, who have become the center of their family life.

While the renewal of vows may seem like a spontaneous romantic gesture, Pauleen revealed that the idea had actually been planted years ago, and surprisingly, it came from Vic.

“Fast forward to last year, we attended a wedding and felt so inspired to get married again! So I started to plan it around July, I think,” Pauleen recalled.

The planning officially began six months before the anniversary, in July 2025, giving the couple enough time to create the intimate, meaningful celebration they envisioned.

‘Simple, intimate, and meaningful’

The couple chose a theme that reflected not just their aesthetic preferences, but their relationship itself: “classic, elegant, and timeless.”

“No fancy anything, no princess gowns, no over-the-top décor. We want this celebration to be about us and about honoring one another and all the other people who love us,” Pauleen said.

Pauleen revealed that her vow renewal gown was intentionally the complete opposite of her first wedding dress.

For the reception, Pauleen changed into another A-line wedding dress with dainty straps, crafted in soft tulle and with a bodice embellished in lace appliqués and beads, also by Rosa Clará.

Defined by respect

Beyond the ceremony, the couple reflected on what they’ve learned in their ten years of marriage, and their realizations were just as simple and sincere as their celebration.

For Pauleen, describing her love for Vic was harder to put into words, but she knows it’s deeply rooted in how he treats her.

As parents to two young daughters, Vic and Pauleen see their marriage not just as a partnership, but as a living example for Tali and Mochi.

Pauleen shared how meaningful it is to see Vic intentionally show their daughters what it means to love and respect a woman.

“I see how he intentionally shows our daughters what it means to be a loving husband, and that matters deeply to me because it’s going to shape the girls’ standards in the future,” she said.

Reflecting on their journey, Pauleen concluded with gratitude and certainty about the love they continue to build.
