In Photos: This Non-Traditional Debut Was Inspired By Ariana Grande's "7 Rings"

Ariana Grande’s “7 Rings” music video served as the inspiration for this non-traditional debut. From the outfits the American singer wore in the MV to the neon pink-washed party setups to the pulsating music that enveloped this event—debutante Kimberly Rios and her team of suppliers were able to pull off a celebration like no other.

“The debutante wants it to be non-traditional, so no gowns… She loves to dance, so there was a nice, big stage to highlight her dance performances,” event stylist Dave Sandoval told Metro.Style. Kimberly wanted a club feel, so Dave and his team transformed the spacious ballroom of Grand Hyatt Manila into a hip venue the teens and adults would both enjoy. “The overall look is glam and sleek. The venue was decorated with lots of pink flowers and modern white lamps,” Dave adds. To complete the Club Kimberly idea, there was also a neon-lit customized Cocktails & Dreams bar setup, courtesy of production design group Light & Space Corporation.

Kimberly worked with Anj Almeda's events team to do the full planning and coordination of her debut. Anj shared that it took approximately three months to plan this one. But for such a fairly short amount of time, the #KIM8ERLEGAL celebration was an absolute success.

To stick to the “7 Rings” theme, the debutante’s Ariana Grande-inspired look for the night was achieved by makeup artist Jake Galvez, hairstylist Jonas Lucas, and wardrobe stylist Joanna Garcia. Her first outfit was a sexy-sporty electric pink custom body suit by Boom Sason which was, of course, also inspired by one of the outfits Ariana wore in her music video.

The event kicked off with an audio visual presentation, a slideshow of Kimberly’s pre-debut shoot by Lito Sy Photography. Despite the modern twist to the usual debut, there was a traditional 18 Treasures segment in the program that was followed by a series of electric, well choreographed performances that starred Kim and done in collaboration with Jawi Buan of The Addlib Inc.

Ariana considers “7 Rings” as a “friendship anthem.” In an interview with Billboard, she said that after returning her engagement ring to Pete Davidson, she and six of her friends got Tiffany & Co. rings. “It was a... challenging fall day in New York. Me and my friends went to Tiffany’s together, just because we needed some retail therapy. You know how when you’re waiting at Tiffany’s they give you lots of champagne? They got us very tipsy, so we bought seven engagement rings, and when I got back to the studio I gave everybody a friendship ring. That’s why we have these, and that’s where the song idea came from.”

Similar to how “7 Rings” highlights girl bonding, sheer fun, and friendship, Kimberly also danced onstage and had a blast with a few of her friends. For this number, she wore a sparkly ensemble of a mini dress and robe, also created for her by Boom Sason.

Kimberly’s six-tiered white cake with candelabra accents was another highlight at her debut. Chef Castillo Fuentes described the cake’s design as “graffiti meets high-end frou frou for a truly millennial vibe.”

At the latter part of the event, an onsite photo slideshow by Lito Sy Photography and video by Project Mayo 7 had guests looking back at the incredibly fun moments captured that day.
