Meghan Markle Is Setting The Season's Tablescaping And Entertaining Trends

For pre-holiday entertainment inspiration, set your eyes on the designs dictated by the Duchess of Sussex!

37-year-old Meghan hosted her very first Palace event over the weekend, a special occasion that appealed to both the heart and the eye.

The daytime event was organized to launch the royal's new cookbook, Together: Our Community Cookbook, a charitable culinary collectible made to honor the women most affected by the Grenfell Tower Fire. The tragedy that took the lives of more than 70 residents in June of last year was considered to be the worst structural fire in the United Kingdom since the late 80s, the victims of which are still on the road to recovery.

With her husband Prince Harry and mom Doria by her side, Meghan warmly welcomed the women survivors of the fire who reunited in this rare opportunity; the recipes in her cookbook were contributed by them, the concept being strongly supported by Meghan herself, a self-proclaimed foodie who has always been a firm believer in healing and connecting through sharing meals.

As her guests enjoyed a truly special treat—they wined and dined at Kensington itself and were in the company of royals—all of them couldn't help but notice the setup provided for them, too. Rather than stick to the royal tradition of holding a formal reception, Meghan injected her signature laidback Californian style at this afternoon garden party and caught our full attention while she was it.

As it turns out, chic, cool and casual can be perfect, even for official business and formal occasions.

Most noticeable from the event was the fact that the crisp, ivory napkins, silverware, and crystal were replaced with trendy, colorful decor in the form of statement candles placed in tinted glasses and big, seasonal blooms. No immaculately clean tablecloths and banquet chairs were to be found either; a wooden table and fuss-free seats were used instead and housed underneath a pretty printed tent in cream and blue.

When it came to the menu and food itself, guests were happy to be dining family-style. A menu card with calligraphy wording that doubled as a keepsake from the experience revealed the flavors and dishes to expect: avocado dip, aubergine masala, chicken coconut curry, samosas, grilled meats, chapati, and yes, even Blenheim Palace Natural Mineral Water.

Meghan's approach to entertaining guests was in line with the event's vibe, too. Her welcoming remarks were delivered sans notes and podium, making them feel like a conversation rather than an address, and all throughout the luncheon, Meghan never shied away from exhanging embraces and personal words with those present.

Her wardrobe was similarly complementary. A simple cobalt blue coat and relatable black mid-calf cocktail dress was finished off by Meghan's loose waves and barely-there makeup.

The pre-holiday season is upon us, which means party invitations of all sorts are about to start coming; make yours stand out by taking notes from Meghan herself!
