Congressman Danny and Aleta Suarez recently gathered their family and friends at Santuario de San Antonio Parish to celebrate their 50th golden anniversary. From humble beginnings, the couple met decades ago working in the same office, Congressman Suarez as a stockroom clerk and Mrs. Suarez as an executive secretary. Over 50 years later, now with 5 children and 10 grandchildren, the couple felt inspired by Filipino elegance and the time when “Manila was the epicenter of genteel living in the 1950s,” according to the event’s visionary and planner, Ferdie Salvador.

Guests were pleasantly surprised to receive grazing boxes and monogrammed water bottles as they exited the church to drive to Shangri-La at the Fort, an idea thought up by the couple's daughter, Jenny. 500 guests gathered in the lobby of Shangri-La at the Fort for cocktails and hors d'oeuvres followed by a grand reception held in the ballroom, complete with the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra and guests from Europe, Quezon province, and Cebu city. The couple's golden anniversary celebration was also attended by close friends from the Senate and the House of Representatives.

Entertainers for the evening included Joshua Tiu, Rada, Bituin Escalante, Frenchie Dy, and Ronnie Fortich. While experiencing the exquisite entertainment, guests enjoyed a plated dinner with wine pairing featuring Baked Mirin Marinated Black Cod Fillet and Grilled Beef Medallion with Foie Gras Tartlet, from catering at Shangri-La The Fort.

The Suarez family wore designer Paul Cabral, whose designs mirrored hints of Filipiniana while still giving life to versatile creations that could be worn anywhere in the world. The bride's off-shoulder gown glistened like the sea under a starlit night and had intricate Colado embroidery that complemented her beloved's barong. The highlight of the evening? Congressman Danny and wife Aleta danced together, and he serenaded her with two love songs while the Manila Philharmonic Orchestra played in the background, setting the stage for what is a real-life romance story that has stood the test of time.

The couple’s grandiose cake from Naked Patisserie stood more than 6-feet tall and was inspired by the Barong de Calado, a special request made by the couple to keep all elements of the event in theme. The couple's grandchildren stood around their grandparents as they cut the cake, and they shared a precious moment together as Mrs. Suarez fed them each a slice of the cake during the cake-cutting ceremony. The ceremony and reception were styled by renowned stylist Robert Blancaflor, who followed a color motif chosen by the bride with varying shades of green, blush, and shades of brown.

The children, Vice-Mayor Jun Suarez, Jenny Suarez-Lopez, Board Member Jet Suarez, and Governor David Suarez all gave brief congratulatory messages to their parents. Joanna Suarez in a sincere and heart-warming speech toward the closing of the reception program that ended with a celebratory toast said: “I thank God that I have parents like them, who have shown me, that despite the struggles and the hardships, you can reach what you want. And you can reach a point where you can share your blessings with everyone.”
