Why You Should Not Join The Performative Wellness Trend

<p>Wellness has become a performance, and social media has given it a grand stage. </p><p><strong>Performative wellness</strong> is the act of transforming health into <strong>something aesthetic, perceivable, and socially approved. It is wellness not just for the body, but also for the camera, the feed, the audience, and the applause.</strong> While it&#x27;s not entirely fake, it also isn&#x27;t always intentional. It Promotes Negative Body and Health Images</strong></div><p>Performative wellness attaches itself to one incredibly narrow aesthetic: <strong>lean, toned, glowing, effortless, and disciplined. </strong>In this space, health is no longer a celebration of different bodies, but has been reduced to a visual hook meant to sell products and get views. Dark eyebags due to natural fatigue are labeled as a cortisol problem. It Replaces Self-trust with Performance </strong></div><p>At its core, performative wellness steers us into an internal trade-off: we start trusting a curated facade of health more than our personal experience of it.</p><p>The shift happens gradually, but it reshapes our relationship with ourselves. We stop listening to our needs and start operating according to external cues. It places a burden on individuals to continuously improve, optimize and fix themselves, not only to feel better, but also to make “better” look attractive.</p><div><strong>The truth is, genuine healing is not always beautiful. It is quiet, unglamorous, repetitive, and deeply intimate.</strong></div><p>This is why you shouldn’t join this trend.</p><p>Not because wellness is bad, but because <strong>wellness should not be another act we feel pressured to perform.</strong></p><p>True wellness does not require spectators. <strong>True wellness does not require posting for it to count.</strong> Wellness does not require being expensive, beautiful, or showy. Sometimes wellness simply requires getting enough sleep or eating right . Sometimes it means moving gently, taking your medications, logging off, asking for help, and doing nothing. <strong>It sometimes simply means being human without creating content.</strong></p><p>We should never strive to always look like our best self in our posts. <strong>We should strive for having a life that lets us be well in real life.</strong></p>
