<p>Prior to this, I have never taken a pilates class in my life. As someone who feels most satisfied engaging in dynamic, explosive exercises that leave me wanting to crawl out the door of whichever studio I came from, activities involving small, mindful movements never really appealed to me. My short attention span and penchant for boredom has, unfortunately, lowered my threshold of engagement in a yoga class to around five minutes maximum. </p><div><br/></div><p>But years of religious cycling have cursed me with the dreaded tight hip—a quality easily noticed by my instructor—and I figured it was time to behave like a semi-proper adult and take a pilates class. Looking after our bodies doesn’t just mean we have to get moving; it also entails a certain degree of control and an understanding of why we move. <br/></p><div><span class="fr-img-caption fr-fic fr-dib" style="width:950px"><span class="fr-img-wrap"><img loading="lazy" src="https://assets-metrostyle.abs-cbn.com/prod/metrostyle/attachments/06a30cd0-7fef-44fe-be6d-2e771848c9db_mj 5.jpeg" style="width:950px" class="fr-fic fr-dib" alt=""/></span></span></div><p>Pilates is a form of low-impact exercise and body conditioning developed by Joseph Pilates as a means of helping dancers recover from repetitive motion injuries. But because people in general behave in repetitive motion—we have the tendency to run, walk, and even sit the same way on a day-to-day basis—we can reap similar benefits from doing pilates as a dancer engaged in rigorous training would. The primary focus of pilates is to improve muscle tone and increase flexibility, giving you a longer and leaner look in the process. </p><div><br/></div><p><strong>Disciplined Studio</strong>, powered by <strong>Options Studio</strong>, takes great care to get beginners acquainted with pilates. Former gymnast and aerobics fitness instructor Ole Eugenio, the owner and founder of Options Studio, was the first Filipino to become a fully certified Stotts Pilates trainer. He is also the creator of the Core Suspend and Core Reform methods, so you are sure to be well-looked after in the hands of his capable team. The studio offers both equipment-focused and mat pilates, and accommodates individual, duo, and group classes as well. If you’re particular with the environment you’ll be working out in, Disciplined Studio’s newly refurbished interiors are pleasing to the eye. As a beginner, I was introduced to the machines and led through the basic movements prior to executing them, which I found to be extremely helpful. Because I’m so used to high-intensity exercises, I was surprised at the amount of new knowledge I acquired regarding using my “box”—the pilates term for the frame made by your shoulders and hips—and regulating my breathing in a completely different way. It was a helpful and humbling experience; it was crystal-clear how these exercises can complement my existing regimen, allowing me to perform better in the long run. </p><div><span class="fr-img-caption fr-fic fr-dib" style="width:950px"><span class="fr-img-wrap"><img loading="lazy" src="https://assets-metrostyle.abs-cbn.com/prod/metrostyle/attachments/b1dea15a-c4ec-4420-bfc5-523ee8567d26_mj 3.jpeg" style="width:950px" class="fr-fic fr-dib" alt=""/></span></span></div><p>A solo session is priced at Php1,950, while a duo class will cost Php1,500.
