5 Ways To Gain More Energy, That Have Nothing To Do With Sleeping

No, you don’t need to insert a nap in between breaks—here are alternative ways to keep you alert and energized throughout the day.

It’s not uncommon for our energy levels to drop midday—or even so early in the morning. It’s always a struggle to maintain focus and alert when you’re just feeling lethargic no matter the time of the day. While a power nap can be a great solution to recharge ourselves, we sometimes don’t have the luxury of time to squeeze it within our loaded schedules.

There are also instances when you do have the time; however, the sleep bug just won’t bind. And when this happens, what should we do to power through the rest of our day?

To keep exhaustion out of the picture, there are other things you can do to boost your energy. These are easy to follow steps that you can habitually form in the long run. In time, you’ll find yourself feeling refreshed, less drained, and more focused as you incorporate these ways into your routine—no snooze needed!

1. Get moving. It doesn’t matter if you insert a full two-hour workout or simply walk around your neighborhood for a few minutes. Contrary to what most people thought to be an activity that will tire you out, integrating movement into your everyday actually increases your energy levels! Other forms of physical activities, like yoga, can also reduce stress levels, helping you recharge as well.

2. Take your caffeine. Of course you can have your cup of coffee—but in moderation. After all, caffeine aids in keeping your mind sharp and alert. If you’re cutting down on coffee, there are other drink options that contain this stimulant, such as green tea.

3. Always hydrate. Dehydration doesn’t just cause fatigue, it can also bring several other problems like headaches and constipation. All these symptoms could add to an already worn out body, so never forget to have at least eight glasses of water daily! You’ll also find more sources of fluids through your diet, like eating fresh fruits.

4. Don’t skip your meals. There’s a reason why breakfast is the most important meal of the day—it keeps the machine (in this case, your body) filled and working! Without food, you run the risk of having low blood sugar, which causes your energy to decrease. So don’t skip on your morning meal, and even the other meals throughout the day to maintain balance.

5. Snack smart. Boost your energy with the right food on your desk. Protein- and fiber-rich foods will be your best friends here, as well as some amount of fat would do you good. They keep hunger pangs at bay while satisfying not just your appetite but your energy needs, too. Nuts, protein bars, banana with peanut butter, a glass of dairy-free milk—the possibilities are endless!
