What Do The Stars Say About December 2020 and Beyond?
We talked to astrologer Monica Lopez Gamboa to enlighten us on the astrological events to look out for in the next few weeks!
In just 30 short days, we will be marking the end of what may be called as one of the most tumultuous years thus far. It goes without saying that 2020 was quite the rollercoaster ride—majority of it being marked by the COVID-19 pandemic, countless bankruptcies, chaotic government situations, and natural disasters in between. It has not been an easy year, to put it quite simply.
But as we approach a brand new year with open arms, in dire expectation of better things to come, one cannot help but wonder—what will the coming months truly be like? The holiday season is upon us, and while we are gearing up for celebrations, albeit mostly virtual, the days that follow after Christmas and New Year will surely be some of the most challenging, especially that the pandemic situation hasn't eased up in the country.
Now as we navigate life in these times, we talked to Monica Lopez Gamboa, a professional astrologer and certified yoga teacher, to help enlighten us on what the stars have in store for the world in general. We asked her about her professional thoughts on what's to come, how we should gear up, and what the implications of upcoming astrological events are on our lives. Read on and get informed!
Metro.Style (MS): Coming from the general pandemic/quarantine situation we are still in, based on your astrological practice, what is the general mood moving forward for December and beyond?
Monica Lopez Gamboa (MLG): 2020 has shown us that the world and the way we do things is undeniably changing. A plethora of businesses and services are transitioning into the online space and this will continue to be true as the planets of business, Saturn and Jupiter, move into Aquarius (the sign of technology and forward-thinking), also known as The Great Conjunction on December 22.
A little bit of history: The last alignment of Jupiter and Saturn in Aquarius was on January 7, 1405—615 years ago when the last emperor of Byzantium/Constantinople, Constantine Palaiologus was born. He was the last of 12 emperors named Constantine in the 1,123-year existence of The Eastern Roman Empire, marking the end of this tradition. Constantine’s Byzantium finally fell to the Turks in 1453 and this marked the beginning of the renaissance. Up until today, we are still riding the wave of art, science, exploration, and the flourishing of culture that began at that era. What is the new culture we are creating now?
MS: As an expert in this field, what advice can you give individuals in general given the new world we live in? We don't see life going back to normal in the coming months.
MLG: There is no going back to normal. We have to stop saying: "We all just want to get back to normal." We cannot go backwards. We will not—by any means—get back to ‘normal.’ We must go forward. There will be a need to reboot many areas of our lives. Opportunity will come to those who strategically position themselves and remain flexible to the changing times. The country will bounce back but we must do our part in rebuilding it together. How do we do this? By seeking to know more about yourself, discovering your talent and potential and working towards using it to address the needs of the community. Think Aquarius. What is your ikigai—the intersection of where your passions and talents converge with the things that the world needs and is willing to pay for.
MS: How can one tap into his or her spiritual self to navigate this uncertain time?
MLG: For me, it all goes back to the Natal Promise. I have found deep meaning and helping through a birth chart reading which serves as my roadmap to what I came here to do and how best to do it. My decision to become a pioneer of drama therapy here in the Philippines and integrating astrology into this practice are all clues from life experiences supported by my own birth chart which has empowered me to keep on serving during these uncertain times. Scheduling a session with an astrologer or starting any kind of therapy are ways to get back in touch with your true self and life purpose.
Each person is unique and is drawn to different modalities as well. I recommend The Healing House and Palma House for a community of healers specializing in their own modalities. Join a community of like-minded people. I have found the Raising Frequencies group with Dr. Lia Bernardo and Atma Prema Wellbeing Group to be a support system and the Being Community. Born and raised a Catholic, prayer and meditation have still remained instrumental in navigating these times.
MS: Any upcoming astrological events we must look out for? How do we prepare for this? Are there other astrological events to look out for?
MLG: The weeks around this Lunar Eclipse and Solar Eclipse in Sagittarius on December 15 (12:16 AM Philippine Time) will bring information on how we can flow into new ways of being in the world IF we are open to it. And while it may not be exactly what we wanted or what we hoped for, eclipses bring us exactly what we need. As they tend to stir the pot and churn up big events, it is naturally best to do a little less. This is not to say you need to disengage from life or not show up for responsibilities, but instead, notice if there’s something in your life that needs to be eclipsed, detoxified and worked through right now. Trust this process and leave as much free time as possible. Life can and will change the direction of the game rather quickly in the next month.
The Solar Eclipse on December 15 is an important one, happening a week before the Great Conjunction. It will shine a light on our government and the direction of our country—bringing about some hope, as it is in the sign of Sagittarius. As Solar Eclipses bring new beginnings, set your goals during this time. What do the foundations of this new beginning look like?
MS: Some say we are entering the 'Age of Aquarius'. Can you expound on this and how can a regular person understand this?
MLG: Jesus Christ, the fisher of men, was the symbol for the Piscean Age. Moses and the Passover lamb, the symbol of Aries, the Ram. Before that, in Egypt, the Pharaoh's used the symbolism of the Bull in temples and in many artifacts. This was the Age of the Taurus, the Bull. From these observations, we see that the cycle moves backwards in the order of the zodiac every 2000 years. Now, from Pisces, we move towards Aquarius. However, it would be a misstep to declare this to be the Age of Aquarius yet as the 2000-year approximation does not translate to the actual alignment with the constellation Aquarius. An Age is measured from the time that the Vernal equinox is aligned with one of the zodiacal constellations. The vernal equinox still points to the 7th degree of Pisces now. Hence, we are still technically in the age of Pisces.
Why is it though we are already experiencing a revolution in the fields of technology and learning—key signatures of Aquarius? That can be explained with another cycle, I had mentioned in the beginning—The Great Conjunction.
In astrology, there are four elements: fire, air, earth, and water. For the past 200 years, Jupiter and Saturn have been meeting in the same element—Earth (Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn) since 1802. Now, they are starting to meet in Air (Aquarius, Gemini and Libra) on December 22 and for the next 200 years. This is going to change the whole society, obviously and we are already beginning to witness this in the shift in many ways. One example is on how our society’s power has been sourced. For the last 200 years, it has been sourced from Earth, coal and oil, from the industrial revolutions into the consumer and materialistic society we find ourselves in today. Earth is heavy and structured energy while air is light and rising energy. In the 1980s to 2000s, there has been a shift in society’s power now being sources from air—using wind turbines, and now more recently—technology. As Aquarius is the reformer, the freedom fighter and humanitarian, there will be a movement to equalize many differences and inequalities within each society—the gap between the rich and the poor. The overuse of the phrase “Filipino resilience” further highlights the dire circumstances the most vulnerable in the community are forced to face because of, well, poor governance.
This conjunction is best for entrepreneurs and thought leaders to lay down the foundations for their visions in the next years. For businesses, the energy of this conjunction can be used on promoting your business online, fostering ties with IT experts, and focusing on data science. Aquarius is about logic and data, a systematic use of knowledge and an integration of systems into a unified whole. Let the renaissance begin.
