Day two is about doing three random acts to complete strangers

Last month, we spoke to Happiness Doctor Lia Bernardo about finding happiness and helping others harness it from within themselves. She’s an expert on self-love and psychoneurology, a drug-free alternative to traditional psychiatric and psychological practices. Psychoneurology operates on the belief that humans aren’t ill, broken, or diseased; rather, each individual human being is already perfect and whole, and they simply “lack the resources or skills needed in order to deal with their challenges,” according to Lia.

She’s talked extensively about her own journey to self-love, and courageously reveals that it’s her calling to teach it to every single person on the planet. Because of her expertise on the matter, Metro.Style asked her to envision four days of self-love, leading up to Valentine’s Day. So much of this invented holiday is focused on the material and gift-giving aspect, the capitalism that’s everywhere. Here’s day two.


“For the second day,” Lia says, “do three random acts of kindness to complete strangers. Not people you know. It’s easy to be kind to people you know.”

“What we can do is to make you feel better about yourself. I think everything that I teach starts with the self first, but kindness, I teach it [the other way around], meaning it’s for others.”

How do you do it?

Wherever you are, just be kind to people you don’t know, whether they’re someone on the street, a waiter, or whoever else. 

How does it work?

According to Psychology Today, a study by Rowland and Curry (2018) found that “after seven days of performing kind acts, happiness increases,” and that “there’s a positive relationship between the number of kind acts and the level of happiness someone experiences.”
