10 Healthy And Energizing Smoothie Recipes For Weight Loss, Working Out, And Overall Health

If you’re not yet incorporating smoothies into your diet, it's high time you do!

What’s the first thing that comes to your mind when you hear smoothies?

Fruit and vegetable smoothies may be the sort of stuff that you hear vegans or health-conscious people are crazy about—and that’s for good reason. Protein smoothies, on the other hand, we quickly associate with bodybuilders and gym bods. But the truth is, you may need that extra protein, too.

Smoothies, when done right, can help you achieve a more a balanced and healthy diet. For the uninitiated, there are three key benefits that you’ll get from drinking smoothies.

First is weight loss. If you incorporate the right things in your smoothie and substitute it in a meal, you’ll find that you’ll get to your weight loss goal healthier and more efficiently. This means that you want healthy fats like avocado and nut butter in your smoothie, which can slow digestion and keep you fuller longer; and fiber-rich ingredients like chia seeds, flaxseeds, hemp seeds, leafy greens, and oats to prevent spikes in blood sugar that can lead to the storage of carbs as fat.

Second is it’s a great aid for working out. If you’ve started to incorporate workout into your daily routine, whether it’s light, medium, or intense workout, you’ll benefit a lot from energizing and protein-packed smoothies. They make an ideal snack before or after your work out since they’re easy to blend, endlessly customizable, and can give you that much-needed boost without making you feel overly full. If you’re specifically creating a smoothie for post or pre-workout, make sure to incorporate proteins like milk, yogurt, or protein powders.

Third, smoothies are great to increase your overall health. If you’re the sort of person who finds it hard to incorporate the daily recommended amount of vegetables of fruits in your diet, you can easily cheat this system by throwing in all sorts of green leafy vegetables and fruits into your smoothie as your breakfast or afternoon snack.

In the end, a good and hardworking smoothie depends really on the ingredients that you use. So we talked to three local brands that supply frozen fruits and vegetables, and superfood powders, to get some recipes for healthy and energizing smoothies that will help you achieve your goals.

Fit Berries

Fit Berries is one of the many micro enterprises born this year amid the pandemic. The owner, Doreen Catacutan, shares that she started the business after resigning from a very toxic career and as a way to start the business she’s always dreamed of.

Fit Berries offers an assortment of fruits and vegetables that are frozen with the individually quick-frozen (IQF) method. Doreen explains: “IQF is a method where fruits and veggies are frozen shortly after they’ve fully ripened and are freshly harvested, which means they’re chock full of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. Freezing locks in many of their nutrients so they’re just as nutritious—or even more so than fresh.”

What’s great about frozen fruits and vegetables is that you’ll never worry about your fruits dying immediately, as they usually do over the counter or on the refrigerator. Since they’re frozen, you also usually don’t need to add ice cubes to your smoothies. Fit Berries also restocks every 2 weeks so that the fruits and veggies are always freshly frozen.

Here are some smoothie recipes from Fit Berries, featuring their frozen fruits and vegetables.
