5 Healthy Dessert Brands to Treat Yourself To on Valentine's and Beyond

They're good for you, and they don't scrimp on taste!

Valentine's Day is almost always synonymous to flowers and chocolate. What better way to celebrate the day of love that having sweets with your sweetheart, right? But for those of you who are trying to go a little sinless with your V-day meals this year, there's no need to cut out the fun. In fact, with our list of healthy treats, you'll want to treat yourself and your beau all month long, even beyond!

While a slice of decadent dulce de leche cake from time to time won't hurt, having it habitually might hurt your sugar levels, so it's best to schedule those treats strategically. Having some molten lava cake for Valentine's day? Why not? But don't overdo it by going overboard every single day. There's even the issue of dairy for a lot of people, as some can't tolerate it or are trying to avoid it for dietary or ethical reasons.

As our contributing expert dietitian Chella Po also says, "It is thought that humans evolved to prefer sweets because it was an advantage: sugar is a source of energy and back when food was scarce, eating them would help us survive. We also know that tastes and preferences can be learned, and how we learned to eat growing up is an important factor too. So don't blame yourself if you like sweet stuff! But now that it is easy to get enough energy, and definitely enough sugar since it seems to be in everything, on average, we are eating much more than we used to, and above healthy levels."

We can't help it if we have a sweet tooth. We love a creamy treat, too. Most of us do. But managing the treats, and going for the good quality ones is far better than settling for subpar desserts on a daily basis just for to satisfy that craving. A common example would be opting for high-quality dark chocolate rather than run-of-the-mill milk chocolate so you get antioxidant benefits while having that sweet tooth satisfied.

In this feature, we round-up local brands that have caught our eye—dessert brands in particular that have made it their mission to make having dessert both a pleasurable experience without sacrificing your dietary needs. The likes of Bubu Bars, Doc Chef, Keto Kusina, Alt Scoops, and Super Scoops offer absolutely delicious chocolate and ice cream so that you 'can have your cake and eat it too', so to speak.
