Make the sustainable switch for your yoga, exercise, and beach needs
If you’re a yogi, you’ll know that yoga is more than just the practice; it’s also a lifestyle. So it encapsulates the whole transformation of your mind, body, and soul, in a way that you’re more connected and in-tune with the Earth.
This is the reason why more yogis are vegans and support cruelty-free products. They are also very big on supporting sustainable living and encouraging eco-friendly practices—which is something that everyone actually needs to be paying more attention to.
According to The World Counts, a project that collates data from a large number of organisations, research institutions, and news services, if we continue leading our wasteful and consumer-centric lives, we only have 28 years left until our Earth runs out of space and resources.
This is why it’s admirable to see companies—big and small—going out of their way to provide more sustainable options and advocate the shift to a more eco-conscious lifestyle. More individuals are also preferring eco-friendly options when choosing items for their daily needs.
We may think our efforts are small, but all of these efforts and habits, when put together, are capable of helping the environment and influencing more people to do the same. And this is exactly what we need to do to help save the planet: A collective effort towards a common goal.
If you’re just starting on your sustainable journey or if you want to continue supporting this lifestyle, baby steps and all the little things matter. You can start with your everyday towel, for example.
Lantay Pilipinas is a small homegrown brand that stemmed from Kamilas 4am Art, a brand that started selling jewelries and accessories made with preserved fresh flowers.
Mimi Dumalaog, owner and founder of Kamilas 4am Art and Lantay Pilipinas, says that Lantay Pilipinas mission is to “promote an ethical clothing line and close the consumer loop.”
“We’re starting this dream by soft-launching our first line: a multi-purpose towel made out of 8-10 recycled plastic bottles. Soon, we will launch sportswear made from recycled water bottles, as well. We believe that by doing these, we increase ethical and sustainable alternatives in the market, making it easier for people to choose sustainable goods,” Mimi adds.
“In the future, we dream of being a company capable not only of recycling waste but also of taking back our products and turning them into new pieces once more—thus, closing the loop.”
Yoga Towel made from recycled PET bottles
For now, this is where they’re starting. Multi-purpose yoga and beach towels made entirely from recycled PET bottles. Instead of buying textiles which have been made in factories that contribute to global waste and water pollution, Lantay Pilipinas recycles the components of plastic bottles and turns these into usable fabric. This way, they breathe new life into what otherwise will end up as non-biodegradable waste on dumpsites and oceans.
Mimi says: “These towels are not just sustainable; they are locally designed by Filipinas, who are actively pursuing ethical lifestyles. Therefore, every element in the design represents the struggles and the motivation behind their decision to commit to this journey.”
Lantay Pilipinas is soft-launching these multi-purpose yoga towels today, January 16, 2021, at an introductory price of P1,900. After the soft launch, the regular rate for the towels will be P2,500.
How to use Lantay Pilipinas’ multi-purpose yoga towels
These towels embody practicality, since you can use it for a variety of activities. The upper side is made with a moisture-activated grip that makes it great for yoga and pilates practice. You can use it by itself when practicing by the beach or on the grass, or you can put it on top of your yoga mat for extra cushioning in harder surfaces. Most yoga mats tend to be slippery when drenched in sweat, so it’s nice to use a yoga towel on top of the mat for sweaty sessions.
Since the towel is also very absorbent, it can easily be used to dry yourself after exercise or as a beach towel when you go swimming.
It’s also very lightweight and easy to carry around, so you don’t have to lug around a thicker yoga mat if you want to practice outside.
