<p>We all need a break sometimes, and it’s best to take it as soon as we have the opportunity because letting our exhaustion, anxiety, and other negative emotions stew can make things worse. Our guide would bring us to a certain area and give us 10-20 minutes of uninterrupted quiet time before summoning us back à la the Pied Piper of Hamelin. Because we were trekking along a dam area, most of the area was surrounded by shallow water, so you have to be ready to get your feet wet. Most of us didn’t mind because the heat has been something else lately, and the chance to cool off in any way was more boon than bane. But as a restless soul, I didn’t take to quiet time very well. Instead, I found therapy in exploring—in following the sound of the water and in discovering new nooks and crannies—and in quiet conversations with new acquaintances. While not all of us were able to fall asleep—I was one of those who fell asleep easily and woke up at the end—we all felt rested and refreshed after the session. We also received delicious rice meals prepared by the skillful cooks in the community, which we pretty much devoured.
