Metro Style Y3K Beauty Fyang Smith

<p>First, there was <strong>Y2K</strong>, the era wherein we thought the world was coming to an end, or so we thought. The 2000s brought about more than just talk of the Y2K bug, but even more so fashion, beauty, and pop culture trends that defined a generation, which have even made their way back in recent years. Fast forward to 2025, we&#x27;re talking about <strong>Y3K</strong>—a trend that&#x27;s inspired by hyper futurism, and what life might be like in the year 3000. Think hyper sci-fi, post-apocalyptic hi-tech. While this aesthetic is nothing we haven&#x27;t seen before, we&#x27;re seeing a new wave of interpretations in the new generation of tastemakers—the likes of K-pop powerhouse Aespa in their song &quot;<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jWQx2f-CErU" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Whiplash</a>&quot;, and J-pop idols XG in their new single &quot;GALA&quot;, setting the tone and example. </p><div style="text-align:center"><br/><iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/8cEdndsuzSE?si=yYWM-A0XK4sK5Duq" title="YouTube video player" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen="" spellcheck="false"></iframe></div><div><br/></div><p>Inspired by all things futuristic, we decided on the Y3K theme for our recent <a href="https://metro.style/people/2025/9/11/future-perfect-jm-ibarra-and-fyang-smith-make-a-mark-as-a-loveteam-in-the-digital-series-ghosting-1200" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">JM Ibarra and Fyang Smith cover</a>, a love team whose got all eyes on them. They are &#x27;future perfect&#x27;, promising even more beautiful performances for future projects together, as seen in their amazing work in their recent iWant project &#x27;Ghosting&#x27;. </p><p>Set in the moody Salaryman 4649, a Tokyo-themed bar in BGC, we shot our cover with elements of neon lights, metal, hardware, and a palette of black, silver, and chrome for both fashion and beauty. Our cover girl Fyang, shone brightly in this new look—daring and bold, just the way she truly is as a person. We rarely see the actress in looks like this, as she is often made up in more delicate, sweet-looking beauty statements. As moody as this look may be, it&#x27;s a refreshing new transformation we loved seeing her bloom in. </p><div><br/></div><div><span class="fr-img-caption fr-fic fr-dib fr-rounded" style="width:700px"><span class="fr-img-wrap"><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/1758867246594Metro Style Fyang Smith Beauty 1.jpg" style="width:700px" class="fr-fic fr-dib fr-rounded"/><span class="fr-inner">Photography by Dookie Ducay</span></span></span></div><p>Our beauty moodboard for Fyang consisted of shimmery chrome, black, and silver eyeshadow, highlighter, expressive eyes, facial appliqués, glossy lips, and unexpected hairdos. Truly, a look such as this takes a bit of risk, and can either go wrong, but in Fyang&#x27;s case, right. </p><p>Fyang&#x27;s makeup artist, <a href="https://www.instagram.com/japethmike_purog/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Japeth Mike Purog</a>, interpreted the theme this way: &quot;For me, personally, the only way to interpret the Y3K look is by understanding every aspect that completes the entire look. Every detail—from the styling, the makeup, the hair, and even the nails—should be intentional. This is needed in order to imbibe an unapologetic, fun, strong sense of self and confidence. In terms of colors, there are a lot of cool undertones for eye makeup, like gray, black, white, and silver. Go for a snatched eye makeup look, complemented with foxy eyelashes for a true Y3K statement. Think grunge but with a bit more edge.&quot;</p><p>For Fyang&#x27;s hair, we opted for sculptural details, futuristic braids, and even a bob with blunt bangs—hairstyles she hasn&#x27;t sported, hence serving as new inspiration for beauty risk-takers out there. Feeling a tad bit more daring?
