At the <strong>72nd Miss Universe</strong> at El Salvador, Miss Philippines delegate <strong><a href="https://metro.style/fashion/metrostylewatch/michelle-dee-miss-universe-2023-preliminaries-look/36710" target="_blank">Michelle Marquez Dee</a></strong> took the opportunity to honor a Filipino tradition through her evening gown look.</p><div><br/></div><p>Michelle Dee made it to the <a href="https://metro.style/fashion/metrostylewatch/miss-universe-2023-top-10-evening-gown/36716" target="_blank">Top 10</a> of the competition where the finalists got to showcase their evening gown look. Michelle was a true standout in her patterned black look, with seemingly tattoo-like details on gracefully etched on her body.</p><div><br/></div><p>This beautiful creation by <a href="https://metro.style/search?q=mark%20bumgarner" target="_blank">Mark Bumgarner</a> is actually a tribute to legendary indigenous tattoo artist <strong>Apo Whang-od</strong> of Kalinga. The art of tattoo-making is continuously being recognized locally, and now, at a global stage, it has been celebrated all the more. “She has achieved global recognition and symbolizes timeless beauty, coinciding with Miss Universe lifting its age restrictions, championing inclusivity and challenging age stereotypes,” says Michelle on her post.</p><div><br/></div><p>The intricate stitching and craftsmanship of the look truly is a glamorous recognition of one of the Philippines’ most celebrated art.
