"The Mexico 66 actually is forecasted to be one of the 'it' sneakers for this year, so if you don't have it yet, today is the day [to buy a pair]," fashion influencer and content creator Camille Co said during Onitsuka Tiger's recent event that celebrated the Japanese brand's classic shoe design.
Some of the metro's most stylish celebrities and personalities gathered at the brand's store in Greenbelt 5 to catch a glimpse of and shop for Mexico 66 pairs in new colorways. No matter the color combination, the iconic Onitsuka Tiger Stripes stand out and make a statement.

There's indeed no better time to refresh a wardrobe than the new year, making the arrival of new colorways all the more exciting. Beauty queen and fashion muse Pia Wurtzbach was one of the guests who were thrilled to welcome the Mexico 66 into her ever-evolving wardrobe. While maintaining a signature design, these ultra-comfy shoes fit for all-day wear come in an array of styles, such as lace-up, lace-free, low-top silhouette, and slip-ons.
After making waves for the first time at Milan Fashion Weeks last year, Pia had newfound appreciation for global fashion and brands like Onitsuka Tiger which is rich in history and cultural appeal. "[The brand] really goes beyond shoes. They have clothes as well, and they're all very wearable and beautiful pieces," Pia emphasized.
Mexico 66 is both retro and modern and notably versatile and unisex. At Onitsuka Tiger PH's event, men rocked this shoe style with smart casual ensembles. Model LA Aguinaldo's footwear of choice is the "Kill Bill" pair from the Uma Thurman-starrer film of the same name. He loved how strong Uma's character is in her fight scenes in that movie, one of his all-time faves. He said, "I wanted to be like that. So parang na-connect ko 'yung movie to really having that freedom to just be cool." "...and express yourself," host Nicole Andersson continued.
It was great to see these sneakers take on different personalities through the outfits the guests wore at Onitsuka Tiger's event. Whether dressed up or down, Mexico 66 lend the much-welcome accent in a look.
