All The Best Fashion Moments At This Year's Ternocon III
See how the humble Balintawak was re-created by our humble FIlipino designers
The final competition and cultural show of Ternocon III was a big night for the arts.
Set at the Tanghalang Ignacio Gomez in the Cultural Center of the Philippines, Ternocon revealed promising creations by 12 Filipino designers from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. The challenge was to re-create looks inspired by the humble Balintawak, a version of the terno we know but traditionally worn with a kerchief or apron.
Yssa Inumerable bagged the Pacita Longos Award (Gold) by merging pastel-hued feminine and masculine silhouettes of the Balintawak. Inspired by the Gibson girl, Yssa masterfully combined east and west themes in her creations for Ternocon. Pura Escurdia Awardee (Silver) Gabbie Sarenas showed her prowess as a designer through her poetic designs while Ramon Valera Awardee (Bronze) Glady Rose Pantua expressed her Zamboangeña pride by using local textiles woven in Zamboanga City.
Whilst celebrating the future of local fashion, Ternocon also honored industry greats and cultural power players on-stage. The show featured collections by this year’s set of mentors: Ternocon 2020 gold awardee Hannah Adrias, Dennis Lustico, Joey Samson, and Ricky Toledo and Chito Vijandre.
To complete the night’s attendance were Bench Founder Ben Chan, CCP Chairperson Margie Moran-Floirendo, esteemed guest First Lady Liza Araneta Marcos, and fashion frontrunners such as Marga Nograles, Lucy Torres-Gomez, Lovi Poe, Regine Velasquez, and more.
