Over the years, the event has grown, with second and third generations now carrying forward the mission of economic empowerment. </p><div><br/></div><p>The fair remains deeply committed to community development. Mr. Claparols’ own business <a href="https://www.instagram.com/lakatsustainables/" target="_blank">Lakat Footwear</a> underwent a shift in 2017, focusing on sustainable products by collaborating with local weavers. “We decided to create more impact by tapping communities to spread their livelihood,” he explains.</p><div><br/></div><p>Recently, the members of the fair formed a cooperative to better manage finances and take advantage of government benefits. “We formed a cooperative... to organize our finances and take advantage of certain privileges,” shares Claparols, highlighting the fair’s evolving structure.</p><div><br/></div><div><span class="fr-img-caption fr-fic fr-dib" style="width:950px"><span class="fr-img-wrap"><img loading="lazy" src="https://assets-metrostyle.abs-cbn.com/prod/metrostyle/attachments/580999e3-e2d2-4027-af7a-6dacb5a4ac02_14 wives and a gentleman.jpg" style="width:950px" class="fr-fic fr-dib" alt=""/><span class="fr-inner" style="text-align:left">Shop locally-made goods, from homeware to personal items to the most delicious specialties from Negros<span id="isPasted" style="color:rgb(65, 65, 65);letter-spacing:normal;orphans:2;text-align:left;text-indent:0px;text-transform:none;widows:2;word-spacing:0px;-webkit-text-stroke-width:0px;white-space:normal;background-color:rgb(255, 255, 255);text-decoration-thickness:initial;text-decoration-style:initial;text-decoration-color:initial;display:inline !important;float:none"><em> Negros Trade Fair   </em></span></span></span></span></div><div><strong>Highlighting culture and sustainability</strong></div><p>Sustainability is at the core of the Negros Trade Fair, even more so than before.</p><div><br/></div><p>In 2017, Mr. Claparols and his wife were introduced to sustainable materials, which led them to work with the<a href="https://www.ptri.dost.gov.ph/" target="_blank"> Philippine Textile Research Institute</a> to use indigenous fibers like abaca and pineapple in their own products. &#x27;We’re strengthening the value chain... Now talking about fibers like pineapple and abaca.”</p><div><br/></div><p>The fair’s alignment with the <a href="https://sdgs.un.org/goals" target="_blank">United Nations&#x27; Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) </a>reflects its focus on balancing environmental, social, and economic sustainability. &#x27;Profitability is important, but selling turnover is also important,&#x27; Claparols emphasizes, underlining the fair’s commitment to creating a sustainable yet profitable ecosystem for local producers.</p><div><br/></div><div><span class="fr-img-caption fr-fic fr-dib" style="width:950px"><span class="fr-img-wrap"><img loading="lazy" src="https://assets-metrostyle.abs-cbn.com/prod/metrostyle/attachments/dde18ce8-be37-4a4b-8531-671d9d26414b_arima night - 37th ntf.jpg" style="width:950px" class="fr-fic fr-dib" alt=""/><span class="fr-inner" style="text-align:left">The 2024 edition of the Negros Trade Fair will be the largest yet <span id="isPasted" style="color:rgb(65, 65, 65);letter-spacing:normal;orphans:2;text-align:left;text-indent:0px;text-transform:none;widows:2;word-spacing:0px;-webkit-text-stroke-width:0px;white-space:normal;background-color:rgb(255, 255, 255);text-decoration-thickness:initial;text-decoration-style:initial;text-decoration-color:initial;display:inline !important;float:none"><em> Negros Trade Fair   </em></span></span></span></span></div><div><strong>More than just a Trade Fair</strong></div><p>The 2024 edition of the Negros Trade Fair promises to be the largest yet, featuring 115 booths showcasing a diverse range of products — from gifts, décor, and houseware to furniture, natural and organic products, food, fashion, and garments. With the participation of 28 local government units (LGUs), visitors can expect to see artisanal creations that highlight the unique materials and craftsmanship from various cities and municipalities. The prestigious <a href="https://www.negros-occ.gov.ph/news/31st-bulawan-awards-2nd-pilak-awards-and-first-anp-pgno-balik-salig-awards-and-trade-fair-at-ayala-malls/" target="_blank">Bulawan Awards</a>, celebrating excellence in design and craftsmanship among Negrense MSMEs, will also be featured, presenting both classic favorites and innovative new products.</p><div><br/></div><p>Event highlights will include <strong>the opening celebration, Arima, on September 17th,</strong> which will feature top chefs from Negros and performances by award-winning dance troupes. <strong>Bacolod Night on September 20</strong> will bring the city’s vibrant arts and <a href="https://www.instagram.com/masskara_byf/" target="_blank">Masskara Festival</a> to life.
