14 Filipino Restaurants Commit To Support Relief Efforts In Ukraine
Filipino chefs and restaurateurs respond to Chef Jose Andres' call to help provide fresh meals for families in Ukraine. Here's how you can help.
In response to World Central Kitchen’s rally cry for support to continue its meal distribution program in Ukraine through the winter ahead, over 70 restaurants in Hong Kong, Singapore and the Philippines have banded together to raise funds by committng to various fundraising efforts including donating a portion of their profits from a dinner service this December.
World Central Kitchen (WCK), founded by chef José Andrés, has been distributing meals in Ukraine since the start of the conflict in February and the emergency mission continues. As temperatures drop and Russian attacks continue to target Ukraine's energy infrastructure, families are left without gas, water, and electricity. WCK’s efforts ensure people on the frontlines of the conflict have access to food.
World Central Kitchen is focused on raising and spending $10 million per month and will continue at this scale through the end of the winter season. “We are committed to staying in Ukraine through the entirety of winter until March 2023 and will have to determine our impact based on available funds. We continue to monitor and pivot the locations we serve based on need and constant on-the-ground security assessments,” said Javier Garcia, secretary of WCK’s Board of Directors.
This initiative is jointly organized by CatchOn – A Finn Partners Company, The Ate Group in Singapore and Eat Public Relations in the Philippines. Founded in 2010 by Chef José Andrés, World Central Kitchen (WCK) is a nonprofit organization that is first to the frontlines providing fresh meals in response to crises, while working to build resilient food systems with locally led solutions.
When disaster strikes, WCK’s Relief Team mobilizes with the urgency of now to start cooking and serving meals to people in need. By partnering with organizations on the ground and activating a network of local restaurants, food trucks, or emergency kitchens, WCK serves comforting meals to survivors of disasters quickly and effectively. To support regional economies, WCK prioritizes purchasing local ingredients to cook with or distribute directly to families in need.
Applying the model of quick ac:on, leveraging local resources, and adapting in real time, WCK has served more than 200 million nourishing meals around the world.
