Well, “Eya“ is not just her catchphrase, but it’s also her whole vibe.</p><p>“At first, [I thought of the moniker] because it rhymed <em>lang</em>. And then I realized <em>na parang </em>I want to bring something different to the table. I want to be more bubbly, more lively, <em>parang</em> enthusiastic that would make the artists feel comfortable and that they could bring a different side or different flavor to them in the interview,” Eya revealed.</p><p>Her journey to the VJ spotlight wasn’t without its shadows. In fact, it almost didn’t happen. “I was contemplating<em> na muntik ko na hindi ma</em>-send <em>‘yung</em> application <em>ko</em> because at that time, it was the start of our semester <em>pero pa</em>-midterms <em>na kami</em>. So, I was super busy. I wasn&#x27;t going [through] social media,” she recalled.</p><div><br/></div><div><iframe class="instagram-media instagram-media-rendered" id="instagram-embed-8" src="https://www.instagram.com/reel/DH7qJSqvGuB/embed/?cr=1&amp;v=14&amp;wp=971&amp;rd=https%3A%2F%2Fod2-workbench-web.abs-cbn.com&amp;rp=%2F#%7B%22ci%22%3A8%2C%22os%22%3A3542924.8%2C%22ls%22%3A419148.6000000001%2C%22le%22%3A419151.30000000005%7D" allowtransparency="true" allowfullscreen="" frameBorder="0" height="881" data-instgrm-payload-id="instagram-media-payload-8" scrolling="no" style="background:white;max-width:540px;width:calc(100% - 2px);border-radius:3px;border:1px solid rgb(219, 219, 219);box-shadow:none;display:block;margin:0px 0px 12px;min-width:326px;padding:0px"></iframe></div><script async="" src="//www.instagram.com/embed.js"></script><div><br/></div><p>But then, a spark came just in time: a mentor from her voice-over work sent her the MYX VJ search post, telling her, “Ameera, I think you should try this. <em>Parang bagay ka dito</em>.” While a rush of excitement is yet to sink in, a moment of self-doubt crept in for Eya. “I started doubting myself and like, ‘Oh my God, <em>kaya ko ba talaga ’to</em>?’ <em>Parang</em><u></u> there&#x27;s already so much going on,” she confessed, adding how she had just faced a string of rejections in the year for courtsiding. </p><p>Despite the fear, she hit “send” at 11 PM on the deadline day, letting the universe take it from there. “And then I said, ‘If this is for me, it&#x27;s for me.’ And<em> kung makuha ko man ‘to</em>, it&#x27;s a full circle moment for me because I&#x27;ve always wanted to be on MYX before,” said Eya.</p><p>Growing up, Eya was more the “shy but silly when alone” type. But watching <strong>Ai dela Cruz</strong> on-screen unlocked something in her. “I&#x27;d see her on TV, and then she&#x27;s so natural with her <em>kulit</em>. <em>Parang nalalabas niya lagi ‘yung </em>personality <em>niya</em>. She&#x27;s so bubbly, she&#x27;s so lively. You&#x27;d feel like she&#x27;s talking to you directly <em>na parang </em>you&#x27;re just friends and she&#x27;s just there to introduce your artists to you. So, that&#x27;s why I love her so much.”</p><p>You might think she had a playbook or training lined up—but nope. When it came to preparing for her own audition, Eya didn’t turn to formal training or even direct mentorship. Instead, she sought out authenticity.</p><p>“I actually didn&#x27;t train or ask for tips. As in, <em>naghanap lang ako ng</em> YouTube videos of old VJs who posted their audition videos. And then I said, ‘Okay, so <em>talagang</em> personality <em>‘yung labanan</em>.’ So, I took inspiration from that,” she shared. </p><p>“I think I prepared myself by just conditioning myself to put my personality out there. Don&#x27;t be stiff. Don&#x27;t be shy. <em>Parang</em> <em>i</em>-let go <em>mo na lahat ‘yun</em>. I want to show people who I really am. <em>Parang</em> I don&#x27;t want people to think <em>na wala akong</em> personality. <em>E</em>, <em>meron naman</em>. That&#x27;s why I also chose Eya <em>kasi</em> feeling <em>ko</em> Eya is the true me. It&#x27;s the girl who my friends know, who my family knows <em>na nilalabas &#x27;yung kulit niya</em>. So, it wasn&#x27;t really about the skills. Interviewing <strong>SB19</strong>! “Before that, I was having imposter syndrome. <em>Malala talaga</em>! I practiced multiple times in the car how I&#x27;d ask the questions, even how I would react. Like, <em>ganu&#x27;n ako ka</em>-nervous,” she laughed. “But it was super iconic <em>kasi</em> I did not expect the fans to actually appreciate the way I interviewed them. <em>Parang</em> it was kind of a validation <em>na</em> what I&#x27;m doing, the hard work I&#x27;m putting in is really paying off.”</p><p>When she’s not VJ-ing, she’s vibing to <strong>Cup of Joe</strong>’s new album ”Silakbo.” Her music taste? For her, it’s challenging to make artists—especially big groups—feel comfortable in a span of 15 to 30 minutes. “Sometimes only 15 minutes is given to you. So, you&#x27;re not really given that pre-<em>chika</em>,” she mentioned. </p><p>“Another challenge is trying to boost MYX to other people, trying to get ourselves out there because it&#x27;s been so long since there&#x27;s been an audition and MYX search. This is something that you&#x27;ve loved before. And this is something that I hope the newer generation will grow up with because MYX is not just here to show you music videos or show you new VJs. They&#x27;re actually here to uplift local music, international music, and new artists.
