Rachel Brosnahan Brings a Modern Take to Her Journalist Character in "Superman"

The two stars, with filmmakers <strong>James Gunn</strong> and <strong>Peter Safran</strong>, recently visited the Philippines as they kicked off the global promotional tour for the fan-favorite Man of Steel.</p><p>Fans got the chance to meet the stars up close as red and blue dominated <strong>SM Mall of Asia Music Hall</strong> last June 19, 2025. Before her audition, she asked writer, director, and co-producer James Gunn where she fits into the canon of this character. James, being the genius he is, laid out a roadmap that felt balanced for Rachel. “You have a superhero who has superpowers, and you have this character who&#x27;s a superhero in her own right,” she shared.</p><p>But of course, every hero has their weakness, even for someone who seems to be unbreakable. “And then along comes this thing that she couldn&#x27;t have seen coming, that she can&#x27;t logic her way out of, and it totally knocks her off her feet,” she said, before David chimed with a one-line joke: “True Love,” making the members of the press laugh. </p><p>Rachel’s take on Lois Lane portrays a journalist shaped by the present times, one she described as entirely different from a journalist, even just a decade ago. “We talked about what she&#x27;d look like as somebody who&#x27;s always going to chase a story to the ends of the earth, who puts work at the moment we meet her, kind of first and foremost in her life. What does her apartment look like? What does she look like? How does she express herself through her clothes? Rachel told everyone that David insisted she wear flat shoes and ended up spending the entire movie looking up at him. </p><p>As their two-day Manila stop came to a close, Rachel Brosnahan and David Corenswet were grateful for the warmth and energy of the Filipino fans, who insisted they should come back. </p><div><br/></div><script async="" src="//www.instagram.com/embed.js"></script><div><br/></div><p>Superman marks DC Studios’ first feature film to hit the big screen.
