Lila Moss Inspired the First Ever Diabetic Barbie Doll

Toy manufacturer <strong>Mattel</strong> and the iconic doll brand partnered with Lila to help raise awareness for T1D. </p><p>The doll, inspired by Lila, has platinum blonde hair—Barbie is styled with a black halter LBD, gold jewels, a pair of black boots, and a black handbag. But what&#x27;s most remarkable about this one-of-a-kind doll is that there&#x27;s a continuous glucose monitor (CGM) patch on her arm, an insulin pump on her thigh, and a personal diabetes manager (PDM) in her handbag. </p><p>Lila was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when she was 12. Like any little girl, she also loved playing with a Barbie doll, which, for over six decades, has shaped girls&#x27; image of beauty. </p><p>“I have such fun memories of being at my grandma’s house, and playing with a Barbie Malibu Dreamhouse as a child,” <a href="https://www.vogue.co.uk/article/lila-moss-barbie-doll-type-1-diabetes" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Lila told British <em>Vogue</em></a>. “Raising awareness for T1D has always been really important to me, but I think creating this Barbie has also been a sort of healing experience for that little girl.”</p><p>The breakthrough initiative not only helps raise awareness, but it was also instrumental in supporting the advocacy of Breakthrough T1D, a leading non-profit organization, as Mattel has donated £20,000 in the model’s name to support the organization&#x27;s work.</p><div><br/></div><div><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/1752031772384516460071_18519656671006322_310322045122243905_n.jpg" style="width:700px" class="fr-fic fr-dib"/></div><div><br/></div><div><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/1752032423482516436244_18519656662006322_1457469975225406567_n.jpg" style="width:700px" class="fr-fic fr-dib"/><br/></div><p>In recent years, <a href="https://corporate.mattel.com/news/barbie-celebrates-65-years-of-inspiring-girls-to-recognize-their-full-potential" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Mattel has reshaped this imagery </a>by championing diversity and inclusivity through sharing countless stories of empowerment, reinforcing the message that “You Can be Anything.” </p><p>Last year, Mattel launched a blind Barbie.
