Robi Domingo on Thriving in His Comfort Zone as a Host

Robi—who started in the entertainment industry as a <em><strong>Pinoy Big Brother</strong> <strong>Teen Edition Plus </strong></em>housemate and dabbled in acting, singing, and dancing—eventually found his comfort zone in hosting. </p><p>According to his father, Roberto, Robi&#x27;s stint on <strong>MYX</strong> as a <strong>VJ</strong> was a turning point in his career. &quot;His passion to constantly improve himself in his talent in hosting has led to near perfection,&quot; Robi&#x27;s dad shared.</p><p>From MYX, Robi snagged one project after another, taking on hosting duties for shows like <em><strong>Pinoy Big Brother </strong></em>in various editions, <em><strong>The Voice of the Philippines</strong></em>, <em><strong>The Voice Kid</strong><strong>s</strong></em>, <em><strong>Dance Kids</strong></em>, <em><strong>I Can Do Tha</strong>t</em>, and<strong> </strong><em><strong>Idol Philippines</strong></em>. It&#x27;s more of listening. Because from listening, you can do a lot of things.&quot; </p><p>If there&#x27;s someone who truly admires him, his personality, and his work, it&#x27;s none other than his wife, <strong>Maiqui Pineda</strong>. Honoring him on this momentous occasion, she shared, &quot;As a host, he has a way of making people shine, helping them grow, and showing their best potential. And he listens, whether it&#x27;s to a contestant, a housemate, the production crew, or to the audience; it&#x27;s really what helps make everyone feel seen.&quot; </p><p>Several up-and-coming hosts in the industry also look up to Robi as their role model. For instance, MYX VJs <a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/metro-style/people/2025/6/11/truly-samm-thing-special-vj-samm-alvero-on-growing-and-evolving-with-myx-1226" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><strong>Samm Alvero</strong></a>, <a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/metro-style/people/2025/6/10/myx-vj-robbie-jaworski-on-honing-his-hosting-skills-reveals-the-artists-he-wants-to-interview-1157" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><strong>Robbie Jaworski</strong></a>, and <a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/metro-style/people/2025/6/10/ozzie-llige-goes-from-courtside-to-center-stage-as-he-finds-his-rhythm-as-a-myx-vj-2338" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><strong>Ozzie Llige</strong></a> told <strong>Metro.Style </strong>that they are his fans. </p><p>“I want to emulate his style—not copy, but I look up to how he carries himself,” Ozzie said.</p><div><strong></strong><strong></strong></div><p>For Samm, on the other hand, what&#x27;s most admirable about Robi is his clever spontaneity and ability to adapt to a situation quickly.  “VJ Robi performing one-take spiels? There&#x27;s preparation involved, especially for events he&#x27;s not totally familiar with. The perfect examples would be his hosting gigs for the press conference and fan meet of K-pop girl group TWICE for a Filipino snack brand in June 2024. For many Filipino ONCE (TWICE&#x27;s fans), Robi did a great job hosting the events, ensuring it was a memorable experience for the members of TWICE and their supporters. </p><p>In an interview with Metro.Style, Robi recalled that experience, sharing, &quot;I had to prepare myself for that, for a month and a half. My wife helped me. <em>Merong</em> cue cards with the faces of the members. Cheat sheet. <em>Alam mo &#x27;yung bata ka na</em> [gestures raising a flash card], &#x27;1 + 1?&#x27; <em>Ito</em>, <em>mukha ng</em> TWICE member... <em>Talagang minemorize ko</em>, even their songs. For one and a half months, <em>talagang</em> immerse in the music... <em>Hanggang ngayon</em>, <em>&#x27;yun ang laman ng telepono ko</em>. I became a ONCE.&quot;</p><p>Robi said he takes these preparations seriously because he always strives for excellence, owing it to ABS-CBN and Star Magic to do a great job as a way of expressing his gratitude for the opportunities they have given him. </p><p>For Robi, hosting is not simply about grabbing the mic, reading a script, and talking confidently. He takes pride in his pre-hosting gig research and the rapport he establishes with his guests/interviewees and the audience. For media conferences, for example, it&#x27;s important for him to make them conversational, making his fellow artists at ease and, consequently, more comfortable opening up. </p><p>&quot;<em>Nu&#x27;ng</em> media con <em>ng</em> ITZY, for example, <em>napagkamalan nila akong</em> writer. So, <em>&#x27;yung</em> writer, <em>siya &#x27;yung mag</em>-<em>bri</em>-brief <em>sa</em> ITZY <em>kung ano&#x27;ng mangyayari.</em> The Koreans thought, since I was really taking charge... &#x27;Excuse me, you&#x27;re the writer? You tell them what to do.&#x27; &#x27;Okay!&#x27; So, maybe that&#x27;s how committed I am to what I do. I really read the script. I read everything. Or, <em>pagtawanan mo na lang</em>,&quot; Robi added. </p><p>There&#x27;s no doubt that Robi&#x27;s effortless sense of humor is one of the factors that make him a great host. Like what MYX VJ Ozzie said, there&#x27;s something with the way he carries himself—perhaps that self-deprecating humor that can easily light up the mood of a live show or a set. </p><p>Curious about this side of his personality, we asked Robi if he&#x27;s always had a sense of humor. &quot;Maybe it has been locked up for the longest time,&quot; Robi laughed. &quot;Because I never thought I was funny... I think I was never funny. My father plays the funny clown in our family, but maybe in this industry, you have to be relatable. You have to be casual.
