Klarisse de Guzman—dubbed as “Nation’s Mowm” and “Ate Klang”—had humble beginnings in showbiz that became the foundation of her current breakthrough. She previously won first runner-up in The Voice of the Philippines 2013, was a grand winner of Your Face Sounds Familiar season 3, and consistently performed in the Sunday noontime variety show ASAP. Even with Klarisse’s achievement streak in singing competitions, there are still uncharted career paths that she wants to explore, leading to her audition for Pinoy Big Brother: Celebrity Collab Edition, “Fan talaga ako ng PBB ever since. So alam ko ‘yung mga challenges. Alam kong mahihirapan ako inside. Du’n na-realize ko na &#x27;Why not?&#x27; Try ko siya, para iba naman. She was recognized as a mother figure and a loving sister, too, because of the caring personality she showcased as a housemate. Klarisse’s knowledge in and love for cooking also worked to everyone’s advantage, giving her fellow housemates and the viewers more reasons to love and root for her.Klarisse said that she considers cooking therapeutic, “‘Yun ‘yung therapy ko talaga—nagluluto, nag-gro-grocery. So, ‘yun din ‘yung nagawa ko sa bahay. So naturally na lang siya lumabas e, siyempre ako pinaka matanda, why not ako na lang din magluto for them? Kasi gustong-gusto ko rin naman nagluluto. Nag-try lang naman ako nu’ng una hanggang sa nagustuhan nila ‘yung luto ko.” When Metro.Style asked the housemates who the best cook is from their batch, and their choice was unanimous: Klarisse. However, if she were to pick another housemate aside from herself, she honestly answered, “Si Mika, kasi siya rin talaga ‘yung assistant ko sa pagluluto e. Siya ‘yung maraming alam din—Kapampangan e. So siya rin ‘yung isa sa maalam magluto. Klarisse&#x27;s years of experience in showbiz didn’t shield her from the challenges. Recalling the challenges inside the house, she said, “Sobrang hirap lalo na nu&#x27;ng mga first two to three weeks namin. Lalo na sa’kin kasi di ko in-expect na ako ‘yung magiging eldest sa lahat. And at the same time, ang hirap, no phones, walang contact at all sa outside world. Siyempre iba-iba rin kami ng ugali sa loob. Kinailangan namin mag-adjust din sa isa’t-isa. But, ‘yung adjustments na ‘yun unti-unti naman—kumbaga, step by step, hanggang sa masanay kami.“For Klarisse, having no contact with the outside world proved to be the hardest, because her mom has been undergoing dialysis and needs regular monitoring. “Biggest challenge for me, sa part ko, was ‘yung wala talagang contact at all sa outside world. Lalo na sa part ko, sa mama ko. So may mga times talaga na nag-overthink ako na, ‘Kumusta na kaya, sila?’ But, wala, we signed up for that. So kinailangan harapin namin ‘yung mga challenges na ‘yun,” Klarisse narrated. And because PBB is a reality show filled with surprises, during the “Big Carnival Concert“ challenge, Klarisse’s mom visited and watched her performance, becoming a source of strength to her and the whole team alike. She recalled, “Sobrang saya ko rin na nakita ko si mama no’n. Kasi akala ko nga mahihirapan siya manood. Kasi &#x27;pag nasa hospital siya, may dialysis siya, nahihirapan siya minsan. So, nakakatuwa na nakapunta siya do’n, nakanood siya. Mas nangibabaw ‘yung happiness ko that time.” As for the most rewarding experience inside Big Brother&#x27;s house, Klarisse said it was the opportunity to donate to the charities, truly living up to her values as the compassionate motherly figure of the season. “‘Wala kaming ka-alam alam na makakatulong kami sa mga charities. And at the same time, nag-enjoy kami, nakatulong pa kami. But the gift of friendship is something she also feels immensely grateful for. Inside the house, she had a group called “Pamilya de Guzman” or “Yoma Akus”—which currently has more than a million members on their broadcast channel on Instagram; the group includes Klarisse as the “Mowm,“ Mika Salamanca as the eldest daughter, Shuvee Etrata and Esnyr as the twins, and Will Ashley as the youngest. “‘Yung Pamilya de Guzman, actually, natural talaga. Sila talaga ‘yung matatawag ko na core group ko sa loob ng bahay. Surprisingly, ‘yun din pala ‘yung nakita nila sa labas. Nakaisip sila ng gano’n na group na ako ‘yung ‘Mowm.’”The group resonated so much with the viewers that there was even a satirical debate online about Klarisse’s favorite child. To which, Klarisse commented in jest, “Lagi kong sinsabi si Esnyr and Will, kasi sila ‘yung favorite ko. Pero ngayon sa labas, paiba-iba na e. Paiba-iba na ‘ko ng amats. Pero lahat naman sila favorite ko.” Much to their fans&#x27; delight, a Pamilya de Guzman series is in the works!As Mowm, Ate Klang, and Klarisse write more chapters of her book in the outside world, varied opportunities await, including her first-ever solo concert this September. Klarisse considers everything a blessing and invites all to witness a refreshing side of Klarisse as an artist—now with the touch of youthful, Gen Z energy. Overflowing with excitement, she told us, “Ibang Klarisse naman ang atake natin ngayon—Gen Z! Nag-start na &#x27;ko mag-record. Meron din akong kakantahin na isang theme song ng teleserye. And this September, magkakaroon ako ng solo concert, and aarte na rin ako.
