As of May 2025, there have been <strong>911 confirmed cases</strong>, with no reported deaths. <a href="https://quarantine.doh.gov.ph/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/DM-2022-0220-Interim-Technical-Guidelines-for-the-Implementation-of-Monkeypox-Surveillance-Screening-Management-and-Infection-Control.pdf" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">The Department of Health (DOH) has issued surveillance, management, and infection control guidelines to mitigate the spread. </a></p><div><strong><br/></strong></div><div><strong>What is it?</strong></div><p>Mpox is an illness caused by the monkeypox virus, a member of the Orthopoxvirus genus. It was first identified in 1958 in monkeys kept for research and later found in humans in 1970. <a href="https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/diseases/22371-monkeypox" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Two main clades exist</a>: Clade I (Central African) and Clade II (West African), with Clade I being more severe. JYNNEOS is a two-dose vaccine recommended for adults aged 18 and older who are at high risk of smallpox or mpox infection.
