Ogie Alcasid Joins Ryan Cayabyab, Basil Valdez, and Celeste Legaspi for Valentine Concert “Love Letters”

<p>For many Filipinos, falling in love has always come with a soundtrack&mdash;and more often than not, that soundtrack carries the unmistakable voice and songwriting of OPM icon <strong>Ogie Alcasid.</strong></p><p>The hitmaker behind classics like<strong>&nbsp;&ldquo;Nandito Ako</strong>,<strong>&rdquo; &ldquo;Hanggang Ngayon</strong>,<strong>&rdquo;</strong> and <strong>&ldquo;Bakit Ngayon Ka Lang</strong><strong>&rdquo;</strong> will join<strong></strong> fellow legends <strong>Ryan Cayabyab&nbsp;</strong>(fondly known as Mr. C)<strong>, Basil Valdez</strong>, and <strong>Celeste Legaspi&nbsp;</strong>for a special <strong>Valentine&#39;s</strong> concert titled <strong><em>Love Letters</em></strong>, happening on February 13, 14, and 15 at <strong>Rockwell&rsquo;s Proscenium Theater</strong>.<strong>&nbsp;</strong>The show marks the second chapter of the <strong><em>MaestroClass Concert Series</em></strong>, fittingly staged during the most romantic week of the year. The <a href="https://metro.style/culture/2025/11/3/maestroclass-ryan-cayabyab-martin-nievera-and-lani-misalucha-at-the-proscenium-theater-1700" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">first concert in this series</a> was held in the Proscenium Theater last November, where Concert King Martin Nievera, Asia&#39;s Nightingale Lani Misalucha, and the Ryan Cayabyab Singers performed songs by Mr. C, a National Artist for Music.</p><div><br></div><div><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/1768367036698Copy_of_JB__4523_optimized_3000.jpg" style="width: 700px;" class="fr-fic fr-dib"><br></div><p>The upcoming concert promises a nostalgic yet elevated musical experience, as the four icons come together to celebrate timeless OPM love songs that helped shape generations of Filipino listeners.&nbsp;</p><p>Beyond romance, <em>Love Letters</em> aims to rekindle the public&rsquo;s appreciation for classic Filipino compositions that are rarely heard on mainstream platforms today. And of course with Mr. C. So <em>ma</em>-relish <em>nila sana &lsquo;yun, &lsquo;yung</em> idea <em>na</em> our country has so much great music to offer. New and old.&rdquo;&nbsp;</p><p>Adding another layer of artistry to the show, the songs will be newly arranged by National Artist Ryan Cayabyab whose musical genius has shaped the sound of Filipino music for decades. For Ogie, working under Mr. C&rsquo;s direction is nothing short of a privilege.</p><p>&ldquo;He&rsquo;s a great teacher. He has a great wealth of music in his brain and in his heart, and he has a great love for Filipino music. So working with him, it&rsquo;s like you&rsquo;re working with what he really is, a national artist. You&rsquo;re working with a national artist who has a wealth of music in his chest. That&rsquo;s a gift,&rdquo; he said.</p><div><br></div><div style="text-align: center;"><strong><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/1768367073976Copy_of_JB__4155_optimized_3000.jpg" style="width: 700px;" class="fr-fic fr-dib"></strong><br></div><p>Beyond the arrangements, Ogie believes audiences will rediscover the beauty of lyricism and melody that defined an earlier era of songwriting, something that sets classic OPM apart from contemporary hits.</p><p>&ldquo;There&rsquo;s a difference in how they express themselves before and now. <em>Lalo na po &#39;pag narinig ninyo ang Tagalog ni</em> Mr. Canseco <em>at ni&nbsp;</em>Willy Cruz. And of course, those beautiful English songs by my <em>ninong,</em> Jose Mari Chan. Just a master class in lyric writing and turning out those wonderful melodies.&rdquo;</p><p>What also makes <em>Love Letters</em> deeply personal for Ogie is the chance to share the stage with two of his longtime idols, Basil Valdez and Celeste Legaspi. For him, the concert is as much a fan moment as it is a professional milestone.</p><p>&ldquo;Basil is an idol of mine. I&rsquo;ve always been starstruck by him ever since I was young. And working with him again, but in a much more intimate stage, is really special. He&rsquo;s funny. I don&rsquo;t think people know that he&rsquo;s funny,&rdquo; Ogie said of the legendary singer.<strong></strong></p><div><br></div><div style="text-align: center;"><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/1768367099396Copy_of_JB__4372_optimized_3000.jpg" style="width: 700px;" class="fr-fic fr-dib"></div><div><br></div><p>He also had nothing but admiration for Celeste, describing her as &ldquo;just loving,&rdquo; and praising her enduring vocal prowess. &ldquo;At her age, she&rsquo;s really still a wonderful vocalist.&ldquo;</p><p>Ogie added, &ldquo;So these are people we have admired through the years. Being on stage with them is an honor.&rdquo;</p><p>Aware of his own musical strengths, Ogie also shared how he plans to approach his performances. For Ogie, performing in such a world-class venue only adds to the thrill of this opportunity.</p><p>&ldquo;I&rsquo;m excited to be performing here. I&rsquo;m excited to hear the sound. I&rsquo;m excited to hear the reception of the audience, to OPM, and of course to the music. And perhaps the laughter that we can elicit from our jokes and all of that. So, very, very excited,&rdquo; he shared.</p><p>As the concert draws near, Ogie offered one final glimpse of what fans can expect: an evening rooted in love, nostalgia, and Filipino musical identity.</p><p>&ldquo;<em>Ito &lsquo;yung mga kanta na kinakanta ng mga Tito natin sa</em> videoke.
