Ronnie Alonte Gears Up For More Challenging Roles

From being a dancer, Ronnie Alonte now embraces the craft of acting and is eager to take on new roles to broaden his horizons

Actor Ronnie Alonte—who’s also a model, singer and dancer—has grown into quite the leading man. You can put him in a romantic role and fall in love with him, but he’s also a capable action star who can put on the thrills with chase and fight scenes. It almost escapes your mind that back in 2015, he was once a member of the dance group Hashtags on the noontime show It’s Showtime. In fact, that’s where everything started.

The 26-year-old artist also had a stint as a singer and released a solo single titled “Love at Website,” which was an entry to the Himig Handog P-Pop Love Songs and even made it to the Top 3 at the music competition. Ronnie may appear confident now but the truth is, he wasn’t always this sure of himself.

He recalls the first time he had to go to ABS-CBN. “Talagang nangangatog ako eh. Kapag naglalakad at papasok ako sa may entrance sa ELJ Building, iba ’yung ngatog ko eh. Kinakabahan ako tapos may nakakasalubong ako na ibang artista. Hindi pa ako sanay noon. Kumbaga, nandoon pa iyong kaba siguro kasi sobra akong na-e-excite,” he describes the experience.

Who would have thought the nervous Ronnie would be a star in his own right? He made several appearances on TV such as Maalaala Mo Kaya and even on commercially successful projects like Vince and Kath and James, Erik Matti’s Seklusyon, A Love to Last, and Bloody Crayons.

He recently concluded the primetime series Love In 40 Days opposite his reel- and real-life partner Loisa Andalio (whom he also co-starred with in the series Unloving U and The Goodbye Girl). “May mga rejection ako before kong pasukin itong Star Magic. Ilang beses na rin. Okay lang naman iyon ’di ba?... Kung meron man sigurong rejection na mangyayari sa akin eh handa naman ako doon. Kaya ko namang tanggapin at kaya kong i-handle,” Ronnie opens up.

Ronnie is ready to handle anything that comes his way especially since he is confident of the family he has in the entertainment business: Star Magic. “Malayo kami physically sa totoong family namin, so naging family talaga namin ’yung Star Magic. Sila ’yung pinupuntahan namin kapag may problema. Para namin silang mga nanay at tatay lalo na si LMD [Lauren Dyogi],” he says.

The actor gets the kind of family-like support from Star Magic, especially during times when he feels he’s taking on a project that’s extra challenging and needs a confidence boost.

He talks about the most challenging role he has take on so far: “Seklusyon noong 2016 Metro Manila Film Festival kay Direk Erik Matti, kasi s’yempre first time kong umarte tapos Erik Matti ’yung director ko, so sobra akong kinabahan. Tapos from dancer, tatawid sa pag-acting, kasi nag-start ako sa Hashtags, so ang hirap’Yun ’yung pinakamahirap sa lahat,” Ronnie recounts. “Actually, lahat naman ng naging projects ko hanggang ngayon, talagang mahirap para sa akin, pero ’yun ’yung pinaka-talagang [challenging],” he candidly shares.

Being managed by Star Magic and being in the business of acting bring joy and purpose to Ronnie’s life. For him, he finds meaning in his work as an actor and it is a craft that even makes him wiser in life. “[Gusto ko ’yung sa trabaho], may panibagong pamilya. So iba-iba iyong nakakasalamuha naming mga tao at lumalawak pa ’yung mundo at tsaka pag-iisip mo s’yempre. Kumbaga, hindi ka lang nakakulong doon sa dati mong ginagawa tapos eto panibago na naman, so nakatulong siya sa akin,” Ronnie pensively and happily declares.
