In an exclusive interview with Metro.Style, Pia also opened up about having to put the book project on hold for quite a long time due to a number of factors including the pandemic. “Now, the time has finally come for me to launch my novel. I’m so excited,” she told us. “We announced it before the pandemic, but then, things happened. We thought we’d wait until the perfect moment, and now we’re finally here.”

Pia gave us a glimpse of what the narrative is about, too. “It’s loosely based on my life story, just loosely, just because she’s a girl who also competes in a beauty pageant,” she introduced, teasing the readers along the way. “A lot of things happened to her: she fell in love, there was a lot of drama going on, and maybe she didn't win the crown. We’ll see!”

Apart from the character reveal, Pia emphasized that “Queen of the Universe” features a handful of Filipino representations as well. “There are Filipino elements to it—when you read; when you’re a foreigner,” she said, noting that they also fine-tuned the content so that both Filipinos and the global audience can relate. “You can read about the jeep. You will read places around the Philippines, so then you’ll know that the setting is here.”
