Miss Earth 2017 Karen Ibasco on What Happiness Is for Her

"Happiness truly is a choice made by every person," Miss Earth 2017 Karen Ibasco shared in her video interview for home appliance brand Midea's "Discover Happiness" series. The campaign highlights the brand's commitment to delivering happiness to Filipino homes. And with this video series, they share different perspectives on happiness through the insights of select personalities and professionals. 

Midea's "Discover Happiness" campaign kicked off last June with Miss Universe 2011 3rd Runner-Up Shamcey Supsup-Lee, followed by entrepreneur and sports enthusiast Patricia Henson. The third episode, featuring Karen, was unveiled recently at the brand's "Designed for Convenience" laundry campaign launch. 

In the video campaign, Karen is seen going about her laundry routine while talking about happiness and the advocacies that are close to her heart. 

"Happiness is also choosing to live every single day with a grateful heart," Karen, a women empowerment advocate, pointed out. She also shared that genuine happiness can come from unplanned moments and by living every moment and making memories with her family. Regardless if one is in a big or small situation, true happiness can present itself, and it's simply a matter of perspective. "Learning to see the opportunities in small pockets in life will truly help you see what happiness truly is, and it gives you a good perspective in life," the beauty queen, physicist, and environmental advocate said.   

Even a household chore like doing laundry can be relaxing and therapeutic. That's what Midea emphasizes with its new campaign that trains the spotlight on the brand's washing machines and their exceptional key features: One Touch Fuzzy Logic for a user-friendly experience; Turbo Wash feature which offers 40% reduced washing time; and HealthGuard feature which works together with Auto Clean and Steam Care to make sure that the inner and outer drums are sterilized to avoid secondary contamination. Midea's top-of-the-line Lunar Inverter washing machine is also powered with an exclusive feature called Smart Control that lets one access it anytime, anywhere through a smartphone.

When laundry chores are done efficiently, there is more time for one to do other things whether at work, with one's family, or for lifestyle pursuits. "We want to showcase how our laundry solutions make simple laundry experiences more meaningful through the convenience and happiness they offer," said Anna Marie Alejandro, General Manager of Concepcion Midea Inc., Philippines.

For Karen, it makes her happy that she can contribute to protecting the environment by simply being more mindful of her choice. She explained, "As Miss Earth, I believe that one of my biggest brands and strong advocacies will always be sustainability. And I always find small and big ways how to contribute to it. Example is retaining my clothes for the longest time that I can because the fashion industry is known to be the second polluter in the world. So, I've learned that if I maximize my clothes for a long time, it'll be great for me and the environment. So, it's important for me to use appliances specifically in laundry such as Midea that is very much gentle on clothes but at the same time, it keeps a good quality of the things that I have."

When asked to share some advice to those in search of happiness, Midea's Happiness Ambassador reiterated that happiness is for free and that anyone achieve it. "You need to understand that you don't need to look beyond what's in front of you. You need to look at what's in front of you, with what you're given, and live with so much of a grateful heart," she mused. Every single day is a gift, she added, and so we should maximize every moment in life.
