Looking for a new way to sweat? This is it!
The holidays are fast approaching and while that can signal cozier and lazier days, we're here to encourage you to keep moving, despite the busy holiday schedule ahead. Your energy levels and your waistline will thank you for it! If you're quite the workout bunny already and are looking for a fun way to move (minus dumbbells and other gym equipment), one sport craze that's taking Manila by storm is Pickleball.
What is Pickleball?
If you're already familiar with tennis, badminton, and table tennis, then pickleball is something you'd easily understand. These sports have many similarities, but pickleball is mainly played using short-handled paddles as rackets and a perforated, hollow plastic ball (seen in photo above).
According to Britannica, "Matches feature two opposing players (singles) or two pairs of players (doubles), and the sport can be played either outdoors or indoors. Pickleball was invented in the United States in 1965, and in the early 21st century it experienced rapid growth. It is now played worldwide by people of all ages and skill levels."
What are its benefits?
Just like its counterparts, Pickleball is a great sport option that enhances cardiovascular strength, and encourages quality social ties as well. The sport is popular among men and women and many ages, so it's a great way to bond with loved ones and new acquaintances alike. It is also said to help improve overall mobility when regularly played over a specific period of time. A social activity that can improve our health? Count us in!
