Chelsea Manalo Rises In Her National Costume And Prelims Evening Gown At Miss Universe

<p>The first official look of the <strong>Miss Universe</strong> preliminary competition are here. <a href="https://metro.style/amp/fashion/metrostylewatch/chelsea-manalo-miss-universe-in-mexico/39239" target="_blank"><strong>Chelsea Manalo</strong></a> has revealed her much-awaited national costume and evening gown, both by the design of <strong>Manny Halasan</strong>. </p><div><br/></div><p>Like history in fashion form, Chelsea Manalo’s costume is an intricate weave of the Philippines. Entitled <em>Hiraya</em> (which translates into a meaning of hope), it was designed as an emblem of the Filipino faith and the diversity of our heritage. With traditional textiles such as the <em>Inaul </em>of Sultan Kudarat and ornaments such as the <em>Tongkaling</em> from Mindanao and the <em>Puni</em> leaves from Bulacan. An ode to the Philippines’ faith in Christianity, at the back of Chelsea’s look is an image of the Virgin Mary as Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage.</p><div><br/></div><p>With meaning stitched into every inch of the look, <em>Hiraya</em> also reflects the historical ties between the Philippines and Mexico, referencing the Galleon Trade with a headpiece fashioned into the shape of a ship navigating the waters with a mast of gold and a deck of pearls. </p><div><br/></div><p>        For Chelsea’s evening gown, the Philippine waters became an inspiration once again. Like waves to a cerulean sea, Chelsea was dressed in layers of blue that flowed gracefully with every move. A blend of elegance and simplicity, the evening look amplified Chelsea’s radiant beauty as she made her way on the Miss Universe stage.</p><div>    </div><p>A collaboration between Chelsea Manalo and Manny Halasan, this series of looks were designed and created by the <em>Bulakenyo</em> designer.
